The Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Clippers have been locked in one of the most fascinating battles for the first round of this year’s playoffs. Both won a game at home and both lost a game at home. The series is headed to LA for Game 5 tonight, and the mind games will start even before the Mavs enter Crypto.com Arena.

Cancun awaiting

It’s been a long standing joke that once teams are knocked out of the playoffs, they are are most likely packing their things up, putting the postseason in the rear view and set their sights on a little fun in the sun. Lately it seems like the hot destination for post playoffs vacations is Cancun, and the Clippers have used that to poke a little pregame fun at Dallas.

If you have been keeping up with the TNT Studio, Inside the NBA, you will have most certainly have heard Charles Barkley mention Cancun more than a time or two. When teams are eliminated he among others, reference the Mexican party paradise as the next destination for teams recently knocked out fo the playoffs, although he did say that the New Orleans Pelicans didn’t deserve to go to Cancun, and instead would be spending their off season at the murky beaches of Galveston, Texas.

Travel website Skyscanner.com has used this “trending topic” to their advantage while showing their support for the Clippers with an advertisement that has been tagged to the side of Crypto.com Arena with an image of a flight track from Dallas to Cancun.

It might be a little preemptive considering the Clippers have to win two games to close out the Mavericks, and this has been the tightest series of the opening round of the postseason. Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and the Mavs take on Paul George, James Harden and the Clips tonight with the winner taking a 3-2 series lead.

The Clippers and the Mavericks have met in the first round of three of the last five postseasons with LA getting the best of Dallas in each of the first two matchups. Tonight’s game will be a turning point in this series, and the winner will be that much closer to the second round of the Western Conference playoffs.
