The numbers are staggering. On Friday, the Kings and Clippers put up 351 total points between them in what turned out to be the second-highest scoring NBA game ever.

Two-time NBA champion, five-time All-Star, and three-time All-NBA First Team selection, Kawhi “Klaw” Leonard is generally known as the best perimeter defender in the game, but it was his offense that set the pace.

With a season-high 44 points, the game became the first one of Leonard’s career that saw him put up over 40 and come away with the loss. This is because while the Clippers’ 175 points was the fourth-highest single-team total in NBA history, they had the misfortune of facing off with Sacramento who put up the third-highest with 176 points.

While the Clippers leant heavily on Leonard, the Kings had two players put up similar numbers, with Malik Monk scoring 45 and De’Aaron Fox dropping 42. This is only the fifth time in NBA history that there have been three players top 40 points each.

The Clippers’ 26 three-pointers is an NBA record for a losing team, while the combination of 44 made by both teams is a new single-game record.

On the season, Kawhi Leonard has put up 796 points for a solid 22.7 ppg, making him their second-most safe pair of hands this season, behind Paul George. Leonard is shooting 87.4% from the line and has 215 total rebounds.

Right in the middle of a four-year $176.3 million deal with the Clippers, Leonard will add to his 11,881 career points considerably. If he keeps up the pace, he should be creeping ever closer to the top 100 all-time NBA scorers by the time his deal is done.
