What is the NBA Media Day? When is it scheduled for the 2024-25 season?
Now a staple of the NBA’s calendar, Media Day has arrived and with that so too has the end of the league’s offseason, but what is it and when is it?
The start of NBA Training Camps across the league is preceded by each team’s respective Media Day. However, it should be said that there is a slight tweak this year in that the Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets will have their days ahead of all other teams due to their international commitments in Abu Dhabi.
NBA Media Day & How it all works
As fans know, the official end of the NBA offseason is widely considered to be when the various teams of the league start their training camps. Those camps are of course preceded by what is known as Media Day. In practice, It is a day on which every team holds an open session with the media during which time photos are taken, interviews are conducted, and of course, meet and greets with fans who are eager to connect with their favorite players after a long offseason. Needless to say, it’s a perfect opportunity for rookies to introduce themselves and for veterans to keep themselves relevant.
Where dates are concerned, the Celtics and Nuggets - as mentioned above - will have their media days a few days before the rest of the team because they are set to play preseason games in Abu Dhabi, UAE. To that end, both teams will have their Media Days on Tuesday, September 24th, and Thursday, September 26th respectively. The remaining 28 teams in the league will have their Media Days on Monday, September 30th. To be clear, there is no basketball-related activity on Media Day but rest assured the practice tends to begin for each team the very next day.
With that in mind, we come to the pre-season slate itself - you can see it in full here - which begins in earnest across the league on October 4th. Indeed, that is the day on which the Celtics and Nuggets will face each other in Abu Dhabi for the first of two games with the second being played on October 6th. From there we’ve got a number of key days including the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement Weekend, the roster setting, and of course, the start of the 2024-25 NBA regular season itself which is set for October 22nd.
