What is Zion Williamson’s injury?
Zion Williamson may just be injury prone. Either that, or the Pelicans star simply has really bad luck. Having missed multiple games early on in the 2022-23 NBA season, due to an ankle injury which had numerous problems during recovery, Williamson was then sidelined in December for three games, after he was placed in health and safety protocols.
This of course brings us to Williamson latest issue, which according to reports is said to be a hamstring injury. Fans of course, will remember that the former No. 1 overall pick was forced off the court during the Pelicans’ game against the Philadelphia 76ers back on January 2nd. It was later announced that Zion would not return and quite frankly, we haven’t seen him since. It’s interesting to note, that on that night Williamson finished with 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting to go with seven assists and six rebounds in 28 minutes.
How long will Zion Williamson be out?
On Wednesday, the Pelicans offered an update on the 22-year-old’s status, saying that his “hamstring continues to heal,” before adding that he will undergo an examination in approximately two weeks. Yet, it should be noted that ESPN offered further context just moments after the team’s announcement, indicating that Williamson is “not close” to a return. It is in fact understood that Williamson suffered a road bump in his recovery process, which was described as “significant.” For the moment, we can only wait to see.
What do the Pelicans lose in Zion Williamson?
To be frank, a whole lot. Across 29 games, Williamson has averaged 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting a more than impressive 60.8% from the field and 36.8% from the 3-point line. With that, the Pelicans must now prepare for their next game which arrives on March 11th, against the Oklahoma City Thunder. It goes without saying that as they embark on a lengthy spell without their most important player, the team will need to steady the ship. Watch this space.
