Held every summer in Los Angeles, California, the famous pro-am summer basketball league has combined professional NBA stars and high-level amateurs or rec-league players for nearly 50 years. This year’s Drew league saw some exciting action with new faces storming King Drew Magnet High School.

Drew League: “No excuse. Just produce”

LeBron James made his first appearance at the Drew last weekend since 2011, and DeMar DeRozan joined in on the fun. The king finished with 42 points, 16 rebounds and four steals, wowing the crowd alongside the Compton native.

Young back at Drew League; Collins makes first appearance

Hawks’ All-star Trae Young couldn’t stay away from the court after seeing both stars make some noise, and didn’t disappoint in his first Drew League appearance since 2019. Young finished with 22 points, seven assists and seven steals on Saturday.

Fellow Hawk John Collins also showed up at LA for his first Drew League, finishing with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Young and Collins suited up for Black Pearl Elite in a showdown against CitiTeam Blazers.

What NBA stars have played in the Drew League?

Founded by Alvin Wills in 1973 “for young men and women out of South Central Los Angeles to learn life lessons via basketball,” more than 100 NBA players have played at the Drew League, including Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, DeMar DeRozan, James Harden, Chris Paul, Paul George, Paul Pierce, Trae Young, John Wall, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant.

These NBA stars continue to use the league as a way to stay fit during their offseason.
