Iman Shumpert arrested at Dallas Airport for ‘possession’

According to recent reports, former NBA player Iman Shumpert was arrested for cannabis possession on Saturday afternoon at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. It is understood that Shumpert had six ounces of cannabis concealed in a bag, when he tried to pass through airport security before his scheduled flight to Los Angeles. The DFW Airport Department of Public Safety confirmed that Shumpert was detained on the grounds of ‘possession.’ To be clear, possession of more than four ounces of cannabis constitutes a felony in Texas. As per reports, Shumpert was escorted from the TSA checkpoint to the DFW Airport jail.

What happened at Dallas’ airport with Iman Shumpert?

What we can understand from the police report, is that Shumpert told officers that he did in fact have a bag that contained marijuana. As per the report, he “asked if there was any way he could make his flight” to Los Angeles, where he was due to collect his daughter. The former NBA player has two daughters with entertainer Teyana Taylor. At that point Shumpert was told no, after which he was arrested for felony possession of marijuana and as mentioned before, taken to the airport’s detention center. To make matters worse, it was also reported that Shumpert was found to be carrying a magazine with 14 rounds in his backpack, however, no gun was found.

Who was Iman Shumpert the NBA player?

Despite the fact that his career came to an end without any fanfare, after he was waived by the Nets in 2021 - the last time he played - Iman Shumpert actually had a decent run of it in the NBA. The No. 17 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft had stints with the New York Knicks, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets and the aforementioned Brooklyn Nets, but he will best be remembered for the championship that he won in 2016 with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Incidentally, Shumpert also became the first NBA player to reach the finale of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and win. He did so alongside Daniella Karagach in 2021
