It’s the end of an era in the NBA. Klay Thompson’s departure from the Golden State Warriors for the Dallas Mavericks means one of the best partnerships we’ve ever seen on court is about to split up. Thompson and Steph Curry made history with the Golden State Warriors, but all good things come to an end, as the old saying goes.
The pair won four NBA Championship rings together in a period in which they had to contend with LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers. Of course, they defeated the Cavs in the Finals on three occasions, as well as the Boston Celtics, the league’s most frequent winners, two years ago.
Thompson and Curry played alongside one another for 11 seasons, breaking numerous records and gaining admirers from all four corners of the country - and indeed further afield - under the orders of Steve Kerr, who doubles up as the coach of the United States national team.

Point guard Curry has averaged 24.8 points per game during his 15-season Warriors career to date, slightly higher than shooting guard Thompson, who returned 19.8 points in his 11 years with the franchise.
Together, the pair won 473 games with the Warriors, losing 193.
Both players managed to register more than 250 three-pointers in three straight seasons between 2014 and 2016, which no other duo in the league has ever achieved.
Why were Curry and Thompson nicknamed the “Splash Brothers”?
Curry and Thompson earned the nickname the “Splash Brothers,” a play on the “Bash Brothers” (Jose Canesco and Mark McGwire, who played for the Oakland Athletics baseball team in the 1980s and 90s) for their ability to “splash” the ball into the basket, especially from beyond the three-point line.
