The 2024 WNBA playoffs get underway this weekend with eight teams looking to book a place in the semifinals with the first round games to be concluded in the next few days.

Which teams are through to the 2024 WNBA playoffs?

The eight teams with the best regular season records head into the playoffs and are seeded based on where they finished in the final standings. That means that the team that finished first will face the team that finished eighth, second vs seventh, third versus sixth and fourth versus fifth. The first games of the four first round best-of-three series will be played on Sunday with Game 2 taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

For the teams that make it through to the next round, the semifinals (29 September-8 October) will be best-of-five as will be the final, with Game 1 scheduled for 10 October and will be concluded either on the 16th, 18th or 20th, depending on whether the series is wrapped up in three games, or goes the full distance.

Who will Indiana Fever face in the 2024 WNBA playoffs?

Indiana Fever ended the regular season in sixth with a 20-20 record and will the team that finished third - the Connecticut Sun, who finished 28-12 - posting the most regular season wins in franchise history. The Sun had the edge over Indiana during the regular season, winning the first three games (92-71, 88-84, 89-72) but lost the most recent game 84-80 back at the tail end of August.

Connecticut also lead in the overall, historic head-to-head stats - but only in the regular season. The Sun are 58-32 but it’s much closer in the postseason. The two teams have met three times in the playoffs - in 2005, 2007 and 2012, with a record of 4-4.

Their last playoff meeting was in the 2012 Eastern Conference Finals with the Fever taking the series 2-1 and lifting their first and only WNBA title.

When are the 2024 WNBA playoff first round games between the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun?

As mentioned, the first round playoff series will be the best of three games. Game 1 of the 2024 WNBA playoffs first round between the Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun will be played on Sunday, September 22 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut, tipping off at 3 p.m. ET / 12 noon PT.

Game 2 of the series will be played on Wednesday, September 25, tipping off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live by ESPN.

Should the series remain tied after two games, it will be resolved with a third game, in Indiana on Friday September 27, with the tip-off time to be announced. If played, Game 3 will be shown on ESPN2.
