The 2023-24 NBA champion will be decided in an intriguing clash between the Celtics and the Mavericks.
Boston have been the most solid team in the competition this campaign. They finished the regular season on the top of the Eastern Conference standings, with 64 wins and 18 losses.
In the first playoff round, the 17-time NBA champions avenged last year’s elimination to the Heat by defeating Miami 4-1. They also made light work of the Cavaliers by coming out on top in five games. The Pacers were expected to give Joe Mazzulla’s men a scare, but the Celtics proved too strong even without Kristaps Porzingis to complete a sweep of the Eastern Conference finals.
Meanwhile, the Mavericks finished in the fifth spot in the West with 50 victories and 32 losses. Luka Doncic’s side had to dig deeper than the Celtics to make it to the NBA Finals, but their performances have also been outstanding.
They took on the Los Angeles Clippers in the first playoff round and closed it in six. The Thunder, one of the standout teams in the competition this term, were waiting for the Mavs next, but ended up being eliminated by Jason Kidd’s side in six matches too.
The series against Anthony Edwards’ Timberwolves was close, although the Doncic-Kyrie Irving society was too much for Minnesota. Dallas emerged victorious in five, but many of their games were decided by small details in the last moments.
