When was the last time the Knicks made it to the Eastern Conference Finals?
New York have been one of the standout teams this season and now they want to go as far as possible in the NBA playoffs.
The NBA playoffs are entering one of the most exciting moments, with the remaining eight teams fighting for a ticket to the NBA Eastern and Conference Finals.
One of those teams is the New York Knicks. Tom Thibodeau’s team was the second-best in the East in the regular season with 50 wins and 32 defeats, only behind the Boston Celtics.
The Knicks beat the 76ers in four games to take a ticket to the second-round playoff series against the Pacers. Now, New York, led by Jalen Brunson, are looking to eliminate Indiana and take a step closer to the NBA Finals.
After winning the NBA in 1970 and 1973, this could be a great opportunity for the franchise to try to go all the way in the competition and make history again by winning a third Championship.
When did the Knicks last make it to the Eastern Conference Finals?
But before thinking of winning it all, Thibodeau will want to make sure his players go step by step, only thinking about their next game and not beyond to stay focused.
As for now, the Knicks are leading the Pacers 2-0 and are only two wins away from closing the series. In their last game, New York had to dig deep to record a hard-fought win at Madison Square Garden.
Brunson suffered a foot injury in the first quarter that forced him to sit out for the rest of the half and Indiana capitalized on that by opening up a 12-point advantage in the third quarter. However, Brunson returned after that and helped the team overcome that disadvantage to earn a crucial win at home. The New Brunswick native finished the game with 29 points and five assists.
The series will now be played in Indiana, but the Knicks have a great chance to challenge their recent playoff history and make it to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 23 seasons. The last time the franchise featured in the Conference Finals was in the 1999-2000 campaign, losing, ironically, against their current opponents, the Indiana Pacers.
One season earlier, the Knicks had made it to the NBA Finals but were defeated by the San Antonio Spurs in five games.
