Update:

The Los Angeles Lakers will be without Luka Doncic for their next game after the star guard officially received his 16th technical foul of the season.

With the technical upheld by the league, Doncic’s one-game suspension is now confirmed and we know exactly when he’ll be out and when he’ll be back.

Which game is Luka Doncic missing?

Doncic will miss the Lakers’ Monday, March 30 home game against the Washington Wizards at Crypto.com Arena. The suspension stems from his 16th technical foul, which automatically triggers a one-game ban under NBA rules.

While the matchup comes against one of the league’s lower-ranked teams, it still removes one of the NBA’s most productive players from the lineup during a crucial stretch of the season.

When will Luka Doncic return?

The suspension is limited to just one game, meaning Doncic is expected to return immediately after.

His likely return date is the next night, Tuesday, March 31, when the Lakers face the Cleveland Cavaliers at home. That gives the Lakers a quick turnaround, with Doncic missing only a single night before being back on the floor.

The back-to-back setup minimizes the overall impact, but it also means the Lakers will have little time to adjust without him.

A first, but not a surprise

This moment has been building. Doncic previously reached the 16-technical threshold earlier this season, but that call was rescinded by the NBA, allowing him to avoid suspension at the time.

This time, however, the technical foul, picked up during a game against the Brooklyn Nets, was upheld, leaving no path to avoid the automatic penalty. Doncic received the technical following a third-quarter altercation with Ziaire Williams, as the two exchanged contact after an offensive foul, leading officials to issue double technicals.

Despite consistently ranking among league leaders in technical fouls, this is the first time Luka Doncic has actually been suspended for reaching the technical foul limit. Fortunately for the Lakers, the suspension will only cost him one game - Monday vs. the Washington Wizards - before he returns the very next night against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Still, even a short absence matters this late in the season, as the Lakers continue to push for playoff positioning.
