When will the NBA announce Ja Morant’s suspension? How many games could he get?
The Memphis Grizzlies star has been under investigation, and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has confirmed that the league is close to a resolution.
The NBA has recently uncovered more information regarding a video that surfaced on social media in May featuring Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant allegedly flashing a gun while in a vehicle with others.
Morant’s off-court behavior puts his career at risk and overshadows his on-court success. Hopefully, any suspension issued by the NBA will allow Morant to seek help and get his personal life back on track.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has stated that a potential suspension for Morant will be announced after the NBA Finals end. Silver believes announcing the investigation results during the series would be unfair to the players and teams. Morant was suspended from team activities in May after a similar video surfaced on Instagram Live. He has since been suspended indefinitely by the Memphis Grizzlies.
The league’s investigation into the incident has not yet been publicly announced, according to a statement by Silver. He expressed shock at the second incident and voiced his concerns. When determining the appropriate punishment, Silver explained that various factors are considered, including the individual player’s history and the severity of the conduct. Silver stated that the initial eight-game suspension seemed severe then, and the league is unsure what it will take to improve Morant’s behavior. Ultimately, the league hopes to work with the players association, Morant’s team, and the people around him to create better circumstances in the future.
The previous month, officials conducted a welfare check at the 23-year-old’s residence. According to several reports, Morant had shared and subsequently deleted messages on his Instagram Stories, expressing love for various family members, followed by a “bye.” A representative for the Sheriff’s office informed CNN that deputies had examined Ja Morant’s home and confirmed that he was safe. Morant had told them that he was taking a break from social media.
