When will the NBA announce the 2023 MVP? Date, time and candidates

The second round of the NBA playoffs has begun, but the MVP of the regular season won’t be announced until Tuesday with Joel Embiid at the forefront.

The NBA doesn’t take into account the stats from the playoffs when considering its most valuable player in a season. Now that we are in the second round of the playoffs, the league is ready to announce the MVP for the 2022-2023 regular season.

When will the NBA MVP winner be announced?

The NBA will announce the MVP on Tuesday, May 2 at 7 p.m. ET on TNT just ahead of The New York Knicks and Miami Heat Game 2.

Who are the candidates for the NBA MVP?

The favorite to win the NBA MVP for the 2022-23 season is Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid. Embiid led the league in scoring with an average 33.1 points per game. 46% of the votes have already been counted and confirmed and Embiid is in the lead by 141 points over Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic. There’s still votes to be counted, but Jokic has a long way to catch up. Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo is now in third place for the odds to win MVP.

Embiid injury update

If Embiid wins the award, he would receive it ahead of the Sixers’ Game 3 against the Boston Celtics. Unfortunately for Philly, however, they may be playing that game without their superstar. Right now, Embiid is considered doubtful due to a knee injury he’s been nursing since the first round of playoffs.

Embiid sat out Game 4 against the Brooklyn Nets in the first round and now it’s been reported that the injury may be worse than originally thought. The Athletic and Stadium’s Shams Charania reported that Embiid’s injury is “more serious than a Grade 1 LCL sprain”.
