Which teams have announced new jerseys for the 2022-23 season so far? Lakers, Warriors and who else?

Though we’ve still got a while to wait before the start of the 2022-23 NBA regular season, a few of the teams have already got us excited with the release of their new jerseys for the upcoming campaign. Let’s take a look!

NBA teams unveil new jerseys for 2022-23 regular season

When it was first introduced back in 2016, the NBA’s ‘City Edition’ jerseys seemed like a novel idea. Today they’re most definitely something that basketball fans look forward to. Normally updated ahead of each season, there are some teams which have stuck with the same design for several seasons, while others have cycled through various editions. This year, we’ve seen some teams switch things up and we’ve also seen some teams taking it back to the good old days with vintage designs. Then, we’ve even seen one team - the Washington Wizards - corroborate with their MLB counterpoint on a joint jersey venture. With all that said, let’s take a look at a few of the more notable designs this year.

Warriors pay tribute to ‘Run TMC’

Diehard basketball fans will remember the Golden State Warriors team of the 1990-91 season. It was a roster that included Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond and Chris Mullin who would go on to be called ‘Run TMC’ in a campaign where they went on to become the highest-scoring trio in the league. With that as the back-drop it appears that the ‘Dubs’ are taking it back to the good old days with a jersey that gives a clear nod to those golden times. Even the three-point king Steph Curry approves.

Lakers go back to their roots

This coming NBA season will be the 75th for the Los Angeles Lakers and with that it would appear the franchise has decided to celebrate where it came from, Minneapolis. Worn by the team from 1948 to 1958, the MPLS jerseys were actually used in the 2001-02 and 2017-18 seasons, so they won’t necessarily be ‘never seen before,’ but they will surely turn a few heads.

The Spurs embrace the ‘Lone Star’ state

With what they have called their Statement Edition combination, the Spurs have actually released their fifth uniform for the upcoming campaign. From a new ‘SATX’ wordmark, to an outline of Texas itself and even traditional Mexican imagery, the new design is definitely worthy of being called a ‘statement.’ “Our new Statement Edition uniform embodies the evolution of our team’s roots while celebrating fans across the entire region,” said Becky Kimbro, VP of brand engagement for Spurs Sports & Entertainment. “Through the intricate serape pattern, we’re blending our 50-year legacy with our vibrant culture that we celebrate on and off the court.”

Wizards and Nationals get together for Washington

If there’s one familiar image that comes to mind when considering Washington, it’s got to be the cherry blossoms. In a joint venture between the Wizards and the Nationals, the teams have both unveiled a collaborative design for their alternate uniforms. In case you’re wondering, the Nike backed move is the first time we’ve witnessed teams from the MLB and NBA coming together to create a uniform.

The Pistons go vintage

“Classic Edition.” That’s what the Pistons are calling their new jersey for the 2022-23 season. Taking it back to the ‘teal era,’ when Detroit wore a seemingly identical combination from 1996 to 2001, the jersey will of course be predominantly teal. Then of course there is there are some interesting changes, including a horse with a multicolored mane. Indeed, it’s probably better that you see for yourself:

The Jazz are mixing things up

While the uniforms are new, the designs are ‘old.’ In a nod to the ‘90s, the Jazz are taking it back with the release of a set of new jerseys. What we can say is that their primary colors will be black, yellow and white, but the team is also going to be using purple. Indeed, the franchise teased its ‘Purple Mountain’ designs for the next two seasons as well as a classic layout that pays tribute to the original Jazz jersey which was worn when the team moved from New Orleans to Utah.
