Kidd lauds Dallas togetherness after Thunder turnaround
Despite trailing by 17 points in the third quarter at American Airlines Center, the Mavericks beat the Thunder 117-116 on Saturday, to secure a 4-2 victory in the teams’ Western Conference Semi-Final series.
Luka Doncic played a key role in Dallas’ second-half fightback, finishing Game 6 with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. It’s the fourth time this postseason that the Slovenian has picked up a triple-double.
Speaking post-game, Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd highlighted the team spirit that helped the hosts to haul themselves back into the match-up. “I thought the group stayed together, trusted each other and worked the game and got it down to seven at the end of the third [quarter], and now it’s anybody’s ball game,” Kidd said.
Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving added: “Being down 17 in a close-out game isn’t a position you want to be in. But that’s where we found ourselves, so we had to respond the way we’ve been responding all season.
“[We were] just playing hard-nose basketball on the defensive end, getting out in transition and just trusting that our pace would get us back in the game.”
When are the Western Conference Finals?
Dallas’ Western Conference Finals series is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday 22 May at 8:30pm ET/5:30pm PT, with the Texans the visiting team in Games 1 and 2. If the series goes the distance, Game 7 is slated to be played on Monday 3 June.
The Mavericks are chasing the second NBA championship in franchise history, having lifted their only Larry O’Brien Trophy so far in 2011.
