Golf enthusiasts turn their attention to the RBC Heritage at Harbortown Golf Links after the excitement of the Masters tournament. This renowned golf course in picturesque Hilton Head Island has been a favorite among players and fans alike.

Despite its name, Harbortown Golf Links is not a traditional links course. Designed by Pete Dye with a significant redesign in 2000, it offers a unique blend of challenges and features that distinguish it as a Carolina-style golf course. Its tight, tree-lined fairways and abundance of doglegs embody the essence of golfing in the Carolinas.

Harbortown measures at a modest 7,213 yards with a par of 71, making it relatively short by modern standards. However, it makes up for its lack of length in strategic complexity. Water hazards come into play on several holes, and 54 sand bunkers are strategically placed throughout the course, challenging players to navigate with precision to score well.

The most notable characteristic of Harbortown is its diminutive greens, which average just 3,700 square feet. Comparable in size to the famously small greens at Pebble Beach, these greens require exceptional accuracy on approach shots to avoid costly mistakes

Harbortown consistently ranks as a challenging course on the PGA Tour. With narrow fairways averaging only 22 yards wide, players must be precise off the tee to avoid trouble. Despite its shorter length, it demands a strategic approach, favoring accuracy over power.

Weather conditions are expected to be favorable, with minimal rainfall and temperatures conducive to low scores. However, the narrow fairways and challenging greens will test competitors’ skill and precision.

Recent history suggests that contenders with favorable odds have a strong track record at Harbortown.

Field and top players

Fresh off his impressive win at the Masters, golfer Scottie Scheffler is expected to participate in an upcoming tournament. However, the key word here is “expected”, as his wife is due to give birth to their first child this month.

Assuming Scheffler does compete, he is the favorite to win again this week, currently listed at +400 odds to come out on top. Scheffler’s current form is so good that only the birth of his child could potentially disrupt his performance.

Xander Schauffele has the second-best odds at +1000, while Masters runner-up Ludvig Aberg is also among the favorites with +1400 odds.

Matt Fitzpatrick, the winner of last year’s tournament, is tied for the eighth-best odds at +2200. Jordan Spieth, who won the tournament in 2022 and finished second last year, is listed at +3500 to win.
