Israeli healthtech startup Antidote Health announced on Wednesday that the Milwaukee Bucks NBA star, Giannis Antetokounmpo, will serve as ambassador.

The power forward, who was born in Greece as the son of Nigerian immigrants, is also investing in the company whose stated mission is providing affordable and accessible healthcare to all Americans as a fundamental human right. Antetokounmpo’s investment comes in light of helping communities including his own in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The telemedicine company said that Giannis embodies Antidote Health’s values and will promote the mission and vision of the company through his contribution.

“My siblings and I grew up impoverished and marginalized”

Antetokounmpo knows what it’s like to struggle to get basic human rights, like healthcare or attention. The 27-year-old, who is one of the most admirable basketball players in the NBA, wants to help other individuals access and afford healthcare.

“I believe that every human being has the right to affordable quality healthcare, no matter their race, location or circumstance, which is why I am proud to join forces with Antidote Health,” said the two-time MVP. “My siblings and I grew up impoverished and marginalized. Though we had the support of loving parents, getting healthcare was a struggle. That’s why I empathize with the many Americans who can’t pursue their dreams because they can’t afford healthcare. Antidote Health can help this crisis.”

In an effort to “democratize access,” Antidote Health provides telehealth services to individuals, employers, non-profits, affiliates and other organizations at a single price, enabling on-demand access and chronic care management from one’s location with little to no waiting time.
