Having entered the postseason as the No. 1 seed out of the Eastern Conference, heads were always going to roll after the Bucks were eliminated in the first-round, but the dismissal of the head coach is a move that while some may have expected, is still eye-opening none the less.

Bucks fire Mike Budenholzer

According to reports on Thursday, the Milwaukee Bucks have taken the official decision to relieve head coach Mike Budenholzer of his duties. The news of course follows the Bucks truly surprising elimination in the first-round of the playoffs, at the hands of the Miami Heat.

It’s got to be said that there have in fact been reports prior to this moment, which suggested that the franchise was considering taking action. Indeed, those reports were given further credence by the fact that the Bucks in no way attempted to defend Budenholzer’s time with the team despite their seemingly unacceptable loss. This is to an extent surprising, when considering that just two years ago coach Bud was at the helm of a historic championship run. That being said, there were always going to be moves made.

There is more to come in Milwaukee

Though there are yet to be further reports, one has to imagine that we’re going to see the franchise taking further action where players and coaches are concerned. Consider for a moment, that the Bucks came into the playoffs on a more than impressive record of 58-24, only to be eliminated by the No. 8 seeded Miami Heat. Not a good look to say the least. At this point it’s difficult to say who, if any, will be deemed surplus to requirements but it’s almost certain that Budenholzer won’t be the only one. Will we see new signings or simply a period of housekeeping? Whatever the case, it’s clear that something has got to change in Milwaukee.
