Why does the Warriors 2023 City Edition jersey have a yellow flower on it?
The Warriors’ City Edition uniform represents everything you didn’t know you needed: femininity, friendship, optimism and diversity.
On 10 November 2022, the Golden State Warriors launched their 2022-23 Nike NBA City Edition jersey. As part of their Empowered campaign, the team’s city edition of the suffrage movement stands for women and all they do.
The Warriors’ jerseys were designed by an Oakland-based artist Allison Hueman, who incorporated unique elements on the jersey, including a black base of masculinity with a yellow touch of femininity, representing friendship, optimism, and diversity.
At the centerpiece of the jerseys is a yellow rose representing the women who change the game and lead fearlessly. And on the side gradient, the diversity of the Bay Area is represented. Additionally, the yellow rose at the base of the jersey is slightly faded, giving it a rather realistic look.
Following the launch of the jerseys, Warriors’ superstar Stephen Curry shared his opinion on the edition stating, “It’s loud, but it’s pretty dope”.
Warriors supporting women loudly
The jerseys weren’t the only show of support for the Warriors. They have also taken hones steps towards honoring the women by partnering with Rakuten and donating $25,000 to the Women’s Sports Foundation.
