Update:

The Washington Wizards will be hoping that Trae Young can help kick-start the team’s under-performing offense but they will have to wait a little longer to see him on the court.

Young had spent his entire NBA career with the Atlanta Hawks before being traded to the Wizards last week. Now 27, he is expected to raise the level in Washington.

However he will not be fit to feature for a few more weeks, owing to MCL and quad injuries on his right leg. ESPN reports that the Wizards want to be cautious with his recover and will re-evaluate his condition after the All-Star break in mid-February.

Young will be forced to sit out the trip to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday and may not be fit to play for well over another month.

What did Hawks get in the Trae Young trade?

Young joined the Atlanta Hawks in 2018 and has developed into one of the league’s most dynamic offensive players. He is a four-time NBA All-Star and led the league for assists last year.

Throughout his time in Atlanta Young has been the face of the Hawks franchise, averaging 25.2 points and 9.8 assists per game across his career. However this year a series of injuries have limited him to just ten appearances and the Hawks decided that they were ready to move on from one of the team’s greatest-ever players.

Despite his obvious talent, interest in Young was relatively modest and the Hawks were forced to take a trade offer that did not include a single draft pick. Instead, the Wizards sent CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert to Atlanta.
