After breaking the New York Knicks’ postseason points record, Jalen Brunson is expected to play today in Game 5 of the team’s NBA Playoffs series with the Philadelphia 76ers, despite hurting his knee on Sunday.

Brunson leaves Game 4 before rounding off record run-out

Brunson briefly exited New York’s 97-92 win in Philadelphia at the weekend, making his way back to the locker room at the end of the third quarter. However, the 27-year-old returned in the fourth quarter to complete a 47-point individual haul that is the highest by a Knicks player in a postseason game.

You can’t say enough about what Jalen did,” Knicks head coach Tom Thiboadeau said after watching the guard’s record-breaking display at Wells Fargo Center.

What injury does Brunson have?

Brunson is listed by the Knicks as having suffered a contusion in his right knee, but is marked as probable for Game 5 at Madison Square Garden.

He has averaged 33 points across the series against the 76ers, top-scoring for New York in all four games so far.

Who else is on the Knicks’ injury report?

Julius Randle remains a long-term absentee after undergoing shoulder surgery earlier this month, while the Knicks will also be without Bojan Bogdanovic, who went off early in Game 4 with a foot injury. Mitchell Robinson left Game 3 with a sprained left ankle and is listed as questionable, having missed out on the clash in Pennsylvania two days ago.

Like Brunson, Jericho Sims is reported by the Knicks as probable for Game 5. The forward is carrying a minor shoulder issue.

The New York Knicks host the Philadelphia 76ers today, Tuesday 30 April 2024, with tip-off at Madison Square Garden scheduled for 7 pm ET/4 pm PT.

Having taken a 3-1 lead in the teams’ best-of-seven first-round series on Sunday, Thibodeau’s team will secure their place in the Eastern Conference semi-finals with victory at Madison Square Garden.

If the Knicks do eliminate the Sixers, it will be only the second time in the last 11 seasons that they have advanced beyond the first round of the NBA Playoffs. The men from the Big Apple are chasing the franchise’s first championship since 1973.
