In an unprecedented move, the NBA has announced it will not be holding any games on Nov. 8 to encourage their players, staff, and fans to go out and vote in the midterm elections. The league had previously held games on Election Days.

NBA official James Cadogan told Shaquille Brewster of NBC News that the league does not usually adjust their schedule for external events, but they are making an exception this time.

“Voting and Election Day are obviously unique and incredibly important to our democracy and that’s part of the value proposition that we want to make sure people understand that voting is unlike anything else,” he said.

The NBA has encouraged voting in the past. A number of teams converted their arenas into polling stations for the 2022 presidential election, while in 2020, the league said that teams would coordinate with local officials to turn their arenas into polling locations.

NBA 2022-23 schedule so far

The full panorama of the 2022-23 season is yet to be officially revealed, but little by little some of the matches on the calendar have been revealed. Recent reports hint at some Celtics games.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Boston club will host the 76ers on the first day of the regular season. In addition to the Celtics, the Golden State Warriors will also have some activity on the opening day of the season.

Charania explained that the rematch of the most recent NBA Finals will take place prior to the All-Star Game. The first game between Golden State and Boston will be on December 10 at Chase Center, and on January 19 they will meet again, this time at the TD Garden.

Finally, the insider indicated that the first game between Miami and Boston, clubs that played in the Eastern Conference Finals, will be held on October 21 at the American Airlines Arena in Florida.

More NBA dates announced

In the case of the Bucks, Charania reported that Milwaukee will start activities on October 20. Their first matchup will be against the Sixers in Philadelphia.

For Martin Luther King Day (January 16), the Miami Heat and the Hawks will play in Atlanta; while the Phoenix Suns and the Grizzlies will meet in Memphis.
