As things stand, it’s now a matter of when as opposed to if the league’s best player will break the NBA’s all-time scoring record. Needless to say, the price to see the team’s next few games has gone up and up and up.
Lakers’ ticket prices skyrocket
Love him or hate him, LeBron James has got the numbers to prove he’s among the greatest to ever play the game of basketball. Truth be told, as he approaches the league’s all-time points record - currently held by LA’s legend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - he’s essentially putting to bed the debate as to who really is the king of the NBA. It goes without saying, that’s quite a feat. Indeed, we imagine you’d probably like to see him make his mark in history, but the truth is if you’d like to have that opportunity, it’s going to cost you a pretty penny.
With James now just 89 points off the mark, it’s quite likely that he will pass Abdul-Jabbar’s mark in the next two to three games. In light of that, ticket prices for the Lakers’ games have gone off the rails as the anticipation builds. The Lakers are set to face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday next week, followed by a date with the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday. If we’re honest, entry prices for those two games are silly. At present the cheapest ticket available from Vivid Seats for the game on February 7th, against the Thunder will run you a calm $326 with the average price of entry standing at $1,152. Then, there’s the Bucks game which currently has a lowest price of $357 and an average price of $1,302. To be clear, that’s a 390% and 175% increase respectively on entry prices.
What if LeBron James doesn’t break the record in the next 2 games?
Should it come to pass that King James is unable to take the throne after Thursday’s game, his next opportunity to do so will arrive on Saturday, when the Lakers faceoff against the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco. The average price for that game is currently more than $850, but that’s certain to increase if the record is still on the table come game time.
In his career, Abdul-Jabbar scored 38,387 points and his has stood since 1984. Consider for a moment, that James wasn’t even born when Abdul-Jabbar first broke the record. Of course, now that he’s in his 20th season, that matters little. With a season average of 30.2 points, 8.5 rebounds and 7.1 assists this season with the Lakers, the four-time league MVP is right on track to truly become a legend. In his most recent outing, James recorded his first triple-double of the season against the New York Knicks on Tuesday. With that, he became the first player in league history to do so in his 20th season. Incidentally, he also passed Mark Jackson and Steve Nash to take the fourth spot on the NBA’s all-time assists list, while watching teammate, Russell Westbrook, take over tenth. Ultimately, it won’t be cheap but if you can afford it, you’ll be able to say “I was there.”
