As the 2024 WNBA playoffs approach, seven teams have already secured their postseason berths, leaving one final spot up for grabs. The fight for the eighth and final playoff position is going down the line, with the Washington Mystics and Chicago Sky locked in a tight race. Both teams are sitting at 13 wins and 25 losses, making this battle one to watch.

Eastern Conference Standings

In the Eastern Conference, New York Liberty continued to dominate, holding the top seed with an outstanding 31-7 record. Right behind them are the Connecticut Sun, who have secured second place with a solid 27-11 record, while Caitlin Clark’s Fever will secure their third spot, although barely above the 0.500, with a 20-19 win-loss ratio. Meanwhile, with their 13-25 record, the Mystics are in a dead heat with the Chicago Sky, creating an exciting race for the last playoff spot in this conference. Adding to the drama, the Atlanta Dream is also in the mix, tied with the same 13-25 record.

The battle for the eighth position remains fierce, with teams ranked eighth, ninth, and tenth still fighting to secure a postseason berth.

Western Conference Standings

In the Western Conference, the Minnesota Lynx are leading with an impressive 29-9 record. The Las Vegas Aces and Dallas Wings are also battling for the playoff spots. Despite having a sub-.500 record of 18-20, the Phoenix Mercury have clinched a playoff berth, showing that the conference remains competitive and full of surprises.

However, teams like the Seattle Storm (24-14) and the eliminated Los Angeles Sparks will need to regroup for next season as they fell short of making the playoffs.

Here's a current look at the WNBA playoff bracket if the season were to end today:

  • 1. New York Liberty vs. 8. Atlanta Dream
  • 2. Minnesota Lynx vs. 7. Phoenix Mercury
  • 3. Connecticut Sun vs. 6. Indiana Fever
  • 4. Las Vegas Aces vs. 5. Seattle Storm

The 2024 WNBA playoffs rankings

If the league finished today, this is how the playoff bracket would look like:

  1. New York Liberty (32-7)
  2. Minnesota Lynx (30-9)
  3. Connecticut Sun (27-12)
  4. Las Vegas Aces (26-13)
  5. Seattle Storm (24-15)
  6. Indiana Fever (20-19)
  7. Phoenix Mercury (19-20)
  8. Atlanta Dream (14-25)
  9. Washington Mystics (13-26)
  10. Chicago Sky (13-26)

The WNBA playoffs include the top eight teams from the regular season.

Although the league has two conferences, they do not determine the postseason format.

This means that 66 percent of the league has the opportunity to compete for the championship, as only four teams miss the postseason in the WNBA.
