Guerschon Yabusele’s time at Real Madrid is about to come to an end, according to Shams Charania. The journalist from The Athletic, one of the great gurus of the NBA market in the United States, reports that the 28-year-old power forward (28 years old and 2.01 m) is negotiating with Philadelphia 76ers to return for a second experience in the NBA. The Frenchman, whose contract expires in 2025, has a termination clause of 2.5 million dollars.

Yabusele ready for second NBA chance

Yabusele recently hinted that he would jump at the chance to return to the best basketball league on the planet. “I’ve been waiting for a second chance… I’m ready,” the France international wrote on X after the men’s final at the Paris Games (he won the silver medal after losing in an exciting final against the United States). A message that many already interpreted as a desire to try his luck again in the North American league.

He spent two seasons, from 2017 to 2019, with the Boston Celtics. With the Cs he played a total of 74 games in which he averaged 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds. From Massachusetts he traveled to China and then to France, to the Euroleague with Asvel Villeurbanne before joining Real Madrid in 2022.

During these past three seasons in the Spanish capital, Yabusele, the Dancing Bear, has won two ACB Liga Endesa titles, three Spanish Super Cups and the 2023 Euroleague in Kaunas, Lithuania.

Sixers come in for Yabusele

Yabusele has one year left on his contract with Real Madrid, and his release clause is set at 2.5 million dollars. NBA franchises can only contribute $850,000 to trigger a player’s release, according to the latest agreement. So, if Guerschon is unable to negotiate his exit with Madrid, he will have to put up $1.7 million himself.

The minimum salary in the NBA for a player who has already accumulated two years of experience in the competition is just over $2 million. So Yabusele, who would not benefit by swapping his contract in Madrid for one of this type in the United States right now. He would basically have to invest one year of his current contract to pay for his release.

Reports from the US, claim that the Philadelphia 76ers are ready to offer the player a one-year deal worth around $2.1 million.
