What promised to be a feast of New Year college football has been overshadowed by events in New Orleans when 15 people were killed after a vehicle rammed party goers in the famous French Quarter of the city.

The incident led to Wednesday’s ‘Sugar Bowl’ game at the Caesars Superdome being postponed with the match between Georgia and Notre Dame now going ahead on Thursday.

As things stand, Penn State, Texas and Ohio State have advanced to the Playoff Semifinal Game with the winner of the rescheduled Sugar Bowl also advancing to the Final Four.

Bowl game schedule for 2 January:

Sugar Bowl: No. 2 Georgia vs No. 5 Notre Dame

Georgia have won seven straight Bowl games since 2019, the year they last triumphed in the Sugar Bowl. However, their defense has dropped off and they will be fielding first-time starter Gunnar Stockton at quarterback.

The Fighting Irish have been winning big all season, mainly thanks to their powerful rushing offense. Their own QB, Riley Leonard, is considerably more experienced, which they will hope proves vital.

The Bulldogs are 3-0 against the Fighting Irish, which includes a 17-10 in the 1980 Sugar Bowl.

When? 4:00 p.m. ET / 1:00 p.m. PT on Thursday, January 2.

Where? Caesars Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana

Gator Bowl: No. 14 Ole Miss vs Duke

Ole Miss will look to ring in the new year on a high note and reach the 10-win benchmark for the third time under Lane Kiffin’s guidance on Thursday when it takes on Duke in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl in Florida.

Despite a promising early start to the season raising hopes for the ‘Rebels’, a trio of losses towards the end of the year ultimately prevented the team from aspiring for the title.

Duke are 9-3 overall for the season and come into the game on a three-game winning streak to round off their regular season.
