College Football Playoff: Who plays today, Thursday Jan. 8? Semifinals, teams, times and matchups
A ticket to the national championship game is on the line today, as State Farm Stadium hosts the first 2025-26 CFP semifinal.

In a matchup between two College Football Playoff first-timers, the history-making Miami Hurricanes take on the Ole Miss Rebels in the CFP semifinals today, as both teams seek to end long waits for a national title.
Ole Miss vs Miami (FL): game preview
The 10th-seeded Hurricanes upset the odds in the quarterfinals, ousting defending champion Ohio State, a team ranked eight places higher than the Floridians. Thanks to its 24-14 win on New Year’s Eve, Miami became the first double-digit seed in the 12-team CFP era to reach the semis.
The 12-2 Hurricanes are chasing their first national championship since 2001.
A day after Miami’s surprise win at AT&T Stadium, Ole Miss also knocked off a higher seed, beating Georgia Bulldogs in a last-eight clash between the CFP’s sixth and third-ranked teams, respectively. The 13-1 Rebels’ 39-34 win at Caesars Superdome kept them on course for a first national championship since 1960.
Today’s CFP semifinal is the first meeting between the Rebels and the Hurricanes since 1951. Miami triumphed 20-7 in that most recent encounter, but it is Ole Miss that has a 2-1 lead in the teams’ all-time series.
