How did offensive lineman Hunter Brown of the Air Force Academy Falcons die?
Well loved by his teammates and coaches alike, the young offensive lineman’s life will be remembered by those he has sadly left behind.
A young life lost is never an easy thing to accept. Yet, unfortunately that’s what the collegiate football fraternity is coming to terms with after a sad announcement from the nation’s Air Force Academy.
Air Force’s Hunter Brown dies tragically at 21
According to a statement from the Air Force Academy, the team’s offensive lineman and Cadet 3rd Class, Hunter Brown, died on Monday after “suffering a medical emergency while on his way to class.” The statement goes on to add that “Academy first responders were immediately called and attempted life-saving measures which were ultimately unsuccessful.” Brown, who was a Lake Charles, Los Angeles native, was 21 years old. While there has been no official word on a cause of death, the school released the following statement about the death of the Falcons player:
“Hunter was a standout offensive lineman on the Falcon football team and was well-respected in his squadron,” said Lt. Gen. Richard M. Clark, U.S. Air Force Academy Superintendent. “The entire U.S. Air Force Academy mourns his loss, and our hearts and condolences are with his family, his squadron, and all who were touched by this incredible young man.”
Falcons coach Troy Calhoun laments loss of a blessing
A two-star recruit in the Class of 2020, Brown joined the Air Force following a year at the school’s nearby preparatory school and went on to form a part of a program that went 10-3 in both of his seasons. According to head coach Troy Calhoun, he was well-liked among the team:
“Our players, staff and entire Academy have been so blessed and fortunate to have Hunter as a part of our lives. He was a pure joy to coach and have as a teammate. He was tough, a great worker, and no one unselfishly pulled harder for others than Hunter. His mom and dad, Candyce and Dustin, raised a wonderful son who made each of us a better person. We love our great brother, and our thoughts and prayers are with Hunter’s incredible soul and his family.” As per the release, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Brown’s death. To be clear, this is standard protocol for any military member and/or on-base death. Where his education was concerned, Brown was pursuing a major in management and a minor in French. He played in two games for the Falcons during the 2022 season.
