Update:

March Madness is always a stage for breakout stars, and few players stand out physically quite like Aday Mara. The Michigan Wolverines center has been climbing NBA Draft boards in 2026 and one of the first things fans notice is his size.

How tall is Aday Mara?

Mara is listed at 7′3″ (2.21 meters), making him one of the tallest players in college basketball. He also reportedly owns a wingspan of around 7′7″, giving him elite reach on both ends of the floor.

That combination of height and length immediately makes him a defensive presence and a natural rim protector, traits NBA scouts value highly in modern big men.

Mara’s size alone would draw attention, but his game goes beyond just being tall. The Spanish-born center from Zaragoza has put together a strong season at Michigan, averaging around 10–11 points per game, 7 rebounds, and 2+ blocks per game. He’s especially effective around the basket, shooting efficiently and protecting the rim at a high level.

What makes Mara particularly intriguing to NBA teams is his skill level for his size. Scouting reports highlight his passing ability from the post, shot-blocking instincts, and feel for the game in half-court sets. At 7′3″, those traits are rare, and they’re a big reason why his draft stock has risen.

Where is Aday Mara projected in the 2026 NBA Draft?

Mara is currently viewed as a potential first-round pick, with many projections placing him in the mid-to-late first round range.

That projection reflects both his upside and the areas he still needs to improve. While his size is elite, scouts have noted concerns about mobility and speed in space and strength against more physical opponents.

Still, players with his physical profile and skill set are rare, which keeps him on NBA radars.

From Spain to Michigan: Mara’s journey

Originally from Zaragoza, Spain, Mara developed in European basketball before making the move to the United States. After beginning his college career at UCLA, he found a bigger role at Michigan, where he has emerged as a key contributor on a team with championship aspirations.

His growth this season has been one of the reasons the Wolverines have made it to the Elite-8 in the NCAA Tournament.

Why fans should watch him in March Madness

Players like Mara often become breakout names during March Madness, especially when their physical tools are impossible to ignore.

At 7′3″, every rebound, block and finish at the rim stands out. But it’s his evolving all-around game that could turn him from an intriguing prospect into a household name. He and the Wolverines will take on the Tennessee Volunteers today (Sunday, March 29) at 2:15 p.m. ET to try and advance to the final four of March Madness.
