Miami 21 vs 27 Indiana summay, stats, score and highlights NCAA College Football Playoff National Championship

Beck was driving the Canes down the field but his final throw of the season was picked off by Jamari Sharpe who called game and sealed the very first National Championship for the Indiana Hoosiers. 

The Hurrcanes would respond with a Malachi Toney TD to cut the lead to three points.  Indiana would extend the lead to 6 with a field goal with 2:00 minutes to go, but Miami would get one last shot to win it in the final moments of the game. 

On the biggest night of his life, in the biggest moment in the game, on 4th down Fernando Mendoza had his National Championship winning moment. The Heisman Trophy winner took this 4th and 4 QB draw into the end zone to take a 24-14 lead with 9:18 to go in the 4th. 

Fletcher Jr. got his second TD of the night to pull the Canes back to within three points on the first play of the fourth quarter. He finished the night with 112 yards on 17 carries. 

It wasn´t just the offenses making big plays. To win a National Championship, sometimes you need a big play from the special teams or the defense. On Monday night the Hoosiers got both. They took a 10 point lead off this blocked punt with 20 minutes to go in the 2nd half. 

Mark Fletcher brought the Canes to life with this 57 yard run out of nowhere and that ignited things for both sides. The game would have plenty of fire works in the second half as Miami tried to keep pace with Indiana. 

The Indiana Hoosiers are Champions of the College Football Playoff and they did it against the Miami Hurricanes in Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. It was a slow start to the game for both teams, but the Hoosiers got into the end zone with this one yard run from Riley Nowakowski. It was the only TD of the first half, as the Hoosiers defense held Miami to under 70 yards of offense before the half.

If you don't know who Curt Cignetti his by this time, Google him. As he says, all he does is win. He has been all over the place and worked his way up to the big time. He went to IUP and won. Then Elon, and won some more. At James Madison he became a house hold name and in 2024 the Hoosiers scooped him up. In his first year at Indiana, he went 11-2 and got to the CFP before the Hoosiers lost in the first round. This year the losing program in college football history went undefeated and are now a win away from their from their first title in program history. 

Miami in their back yard

Miami defied all odds, not only making it to the College Football Playoffs despite plenty of objections surrounding their inclusion in the post season. Now they have a chance to win it all in the comfort of their home field. It would be the first time ever that the National Champions win the title on their home field. Teams have won the title in their home state, like, LSU, but they won it away from their home stadium. There will surely be plenty of Orange and Green in the stadium tonight as the Hurricanes take the field.

Sam Mendoza is now the projected No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft but he won the Heisman and is now looking to win the first National Championship. He came to Indiana from Cal, and his numbers exploded under Curt Cignetti. He set career highs with 3,349 yards, 41 TDs and just 6 INTs. He completed 68.8% of his passes and led the Hoosiers to their first undefeated season in program history. Tonight he has a chance to complete the perfect season with a win tonight in the National Championship.

Carson Beck made a big move, and gambled on himself. He went from the University of Georgia to Miami last spring and had a fantastic season with the Hurricanes. Beck threw for 3,581 yards, 29 TDs and 11 INTs while completing a career high 73.3% of his passes. Not only did he do hat, he took his team to the CFP and threw for over 400 yards and tossed three TDs and just one INT. Now the Canes are back in the title game after more than 2 decades. He can cement his legacy with a win over the top team in the league tonight on his home soil. 

How they got here: Indiana 

Indiana followed up their incredible turn around season last year with an undefeated campaign that swept them through the Big 10 and carried them to the one seed in the Playoffs. They beat everyone, from Illinois to Oregon, to Penn State and OSU in the Big 10 title game. They got a first round BYE, and then played Alabama in the QF. They waxed them 38-3 to move on to the Peach Bowl against Oregon. They set they tone early and never turned back. This is a team that has won everything and is one win away from taking their first title in program history. 

How they got here: Miami 

There were a lot of people saying that the Miami Hurricanes didn't deserve to be in the CFP after not winning the ACC and finishing with a 10-2 record. They made their way into the playoff and barley escaped from the first round needing a late fourth quarter TD from Malachi Toney who gave MIA a 10-3 lead with 1:44 to go. The Hurricanes would go on to close that game out and set up a meeting with reigning champs, the Ohio State Buckeyes. Miami went up 14-0 in the second quarter, off of a Carson Beck TD early in the quarter and a 72 yard pick six by Keionte Scott. The defense would buckle down, for the rest of the way although OSU tightened the game up in  the first few minutes of the 4th, but a Charmar Brown TD run closed out the game and set up a date with Ole Miss. 

Indiana's last game 

Indiana played Oregon in the Peach Bowl and for the second time in a matter of weeks the Hoosiers plastered their opponent in the first half. They took a 35-7 lead thanks to a couple of early pick sixes that set the tone from the very first snap. Fernando Mendoza would throw a couple of TD passes, and Black would run in a TD to head into the half up 35-7. Indiana would cruise from there to reach their first National Championship game in program history. 

Miami's last game 

The Hurricane took on the Ole Miss Runnnin Rebels in the CFP Semifinal and it was one of the best games of this playoffs. They took on an Ole Miss team that had seen their head coach leave to LSU before the playoff. There were eight lead changes during the game and both QBs went back and forth in a dual for the ages. Things got off to a slow start, but the game picked up in the 2nd quarter and they wouldn’t  slow down until he final seconds of the game. Down by 5, Ole Miis drove down the field and Chambliss hit Dae’Quan Wright on a 24 yard TD pass to take a 3:13 lead in the fourth quarter. The Hurricanes answered back by driving down the field and setting up a 3 yard run from Carson Beck.
