Miami vs UAB preview

Miami

Both Miami and the Blazers finished 6-6 this season with wins in the season’s final week to earn bowl eligibility.

In their regular-season final game, Miami managed to come up with a 18-17 win over Ball State to qualify for a bowl game, with quarterback Aveon Smith was key in the RedHawks’ 14-point comeback.

Smith and Mac Hippenhammer will be the men to watch in this game. The QB is the team’s leading rusher and has recorded 1,137 passing yards, 503 rushing yards, and 15 TDs overall this season.

Hippenhammer had 52 receptions for 726 yards and eight TDs. Moreover, the wide receiver had back-to-back 100-yard games in November.

Chuck Martin’s men are averaging 20.2 points per game (113th in the nation) and 4.90 yards per play (122nd in the nation) this campaign.

UAB

Meanwhile, the Blazers defeated Louisiana Tech 37-27, with DeWayne McBride rushing for 272 yards, which is his third 200-plus rushing game this season.

Alabama-Birmingham (UAB), who set a single-season school record with 2,925 rushing yards, won’t have offensive coordinator Bryant Vincent in Nassau, so former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer, who was named the new head coach, will take the reigns of the team.

Many eyes will be on UAB’s RB DeWayne McBride, who set a school record with 19 rushing touchdowns in a single season and is averaging 155.7 rushing yards per game.

LB Noah Wilder is tipped to be another important player in the game vs. Miami, as he registered 102 tackles this season. He has 330 tackles in four years at UAB, ranking third all-time at the university.

Miami vs UAB: prediction

UAB are going into the game vs. Miami as favorites with a superior stable of running backs. Miami have struggled all season when defending against the run and that could well happen here again.
