A promising student-athlete for his high school with a seemingly bright future ahead, Caleb White was likely en route to a great career in the game of basketball. Now, he will be mourned by fans, family, and friends after his untimely death.
Pinson Valley High School’s Caleb White passes away at 17
According to an announcement from the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA), Caleb White, a talented senior point guard from Pinson Valley High School in Alabama, has died at the age of 17. It is understood that White suffered a medical emergency at the school on Thursday, and was later pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital. In the AHSAA’s announcement, executive director Alvin Briggs noted that White was an exceptional student-athlete who positively affected all who interacted with him.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Caleb’s family, his classmates, and basketball team, and extended school family,” Briggs said. “He was an outstanding student-athlete who played in the North-South All-Star Basketball Game last month. He was an outstanding student-athlete and role model.”
What do we know about Caleb White’s cause of death?
While no official details have yet been given about White’s cause of death, the principal of Pinson Valley High School, Michael Turner, stated that counseling services would be made available to all students in days ahead. Indeed, it’s now clear that White’s death was a blow to the community with even Pinson Mayor, Joe Cochran, who knew White personally, expressing his sympathies on Facebook. “No words can be gathered to provide comfort to a family and community experiencing the loss of young life,” Cochran wrote. “Please lift Caleb’s family and friends along with the entire PVHS community in prayer for the hours, weeks, months, and years ahead. I was honored to know Caleb personally and loved the spirit he carried. Life is fleeting, enjoy every day as the treasure it is, I know Caleb did.” Where his efforts on the court were concerned, White was fresh off of a stellar season in which he averaged 20.9 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.
