Quinn Ewers injury update: How long will the Texas Longhorns’ QB be out?
The 21-year-old hobbled out of Saturday’s 56-7 win over the UTSA Roadrunners at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
The Texas Longhorns posted their third consecutive victory of the new campaign by beating the UTSA Roadrunners 56-7 at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, building on their recent convincing wins against Colorado State and Michigan.
However, an injury to starting quarterback Quinn Ewers took some of the shine off the win. Ewers had to be helped off the field after suffering an abdominal injury in the second quarter.
What did Sarkisian have to say about Quinn Ewers’ injury?
Speaking after the game, head coach Steve Sarkisian told reporters, “Quinn was super efficient in his time in there. I think he was 14-16 with a couple of touchdowns, kind of an errant throw in the reception but really played efficient football. It’s an oblique strain, an abdomen strain.
“It remains to be seen kind of the seriousness of that and the length of that, but that’s what it is. We don’t think it’s anything structural or broken or things like that. It was an odd play but again, that gave an opportunity for Arch [Manning] to get some valuable playing time and experience”.
ESPN’s college football senior writer Pete Thamel gave an update and believes that Quinn’s injury may be less serious than initially thought and classified the QB’s status as status week-to-week. It means that Ewers will more than likely sit out the next game and will be assessed again ahead of the team’s fifth outing against the Bulldogs at the end of the month.
The Horns are next in action this weekend, welcoming the UL Monroe Warhawks to Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday with the game scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. CT.
With Ewers recovering and unavailable, Sarkisian will hand Arch Manning his first start. Manning ended Saturday’s game with decent figures: 223 passing yards, 53 rushing yards and five total touchdowns over nine drives - his first throw was a 19-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Moore Jr to to extend UT’s lead to 21-0.
