Update:

When it comes to longevity in the college game, few basketball coaches can compete with the incredible ‘Mr March’; Tom Izzo.

The 70-year-old coaching veteran began coaching in the NCAA in 1977 and joined Michigan State in 1983, becoming the head coach in 1995. In the past 30 years he has led the team to eight Final Four appearances, ten conference titles and a national championship.

Under his guidance Michigan State are expected to challenge for a championship again this year and he can further cement his legendary status with another triumph in March Madness.

How much is Tom Izzo’s salary?

The most recent contract signed by Izzo was a five-year rolling deal agreed in 2022. The contract essentially renews every year, meaning that he is always in the first year of a five-year deal, unless terminated.

It’s a sign of his position within the game, as is his annual salary. Tom Izzo earns $6.2 million per year, putting him fourth in the list of highest-paid college basketball coaches. Essentially Sports reports that $5.92 million of that is non-performance related payments.

An appearance in the Final Four stage of March Madness earns Izzo another $25,000 in bonus payments, while a national championship adds another $50,000 to his considerable annual earnings.

The No. 2 seed Michigan State Spartans take on Ole Miss Rebels in the Sweet 16 stage on Friday night. The State Farm Arena in Atlanta Georgia will play host to the game as Izzo looks to improve on his incredible postseason record with the Spartans.
