UConn vs everyone else: Championship history of the 2026 Final Four
March Madness is getting closer to the end, with four teams left fighting for the title. Of those four, there is one clear dominant powerhouse historically.
As the 2026 March Madness tournament heads into the Final Four, one program stands out as the most experienced of the bunch, that knows exactly how to win at this stage. The other three schools are still out to prove something.
What history says about the Final Four
The UConn Huskies enter the weekend with six national championships, including multiple titles in the modern era. When March pressure hits, UConn has consistently delivered.

The same can’t be said for the rest of the field - at least not yet. The Illinois Fighting Illini are still searching for their first national title in program history. Despite past deep runs, most notably their runner-up finish in 2005, a championship has remained elusive.
Both the Michigan Wolverines and the Arizona Wildcats have cut down the nets before, but not in recent memory. Michigan’s lone title came in 1989, while Arizona’s dates back to 1997. For both programs, this Final Four represents a chance to end decades-long droughts.
But does championship pedigree actually matter today? UConn’s recent success suggests it might. The Huskies have built a reputation for peaking in March, handling high-pressure moments better than most programs in the country.
But this year’s tournament has also shown how unpredictable things can be. With three teams hungry to either win their first title or end long droughts, the balance between experience and opportunity is thinner than ever.
If UConn wins again, it would further cement their place as the defining program of the modern era. If not, we’re guaranteed a story of breakthrough, whether it’s a first-time champion in Illinois or a long-awaited return to glory for Michigan or Arizona. Either way, history is on the line.
The Men’s Final Four begins on Saturday, April 4 with the Huskies competing against Illinois to start off the night.
