What is Bo Nix’s NFL draft projection? The Oregon Ducks quarterback’s impressive numbers
It’s evident that the Ducks’ quarterback is exceptional in his fifth year. The question remains: where in the NFL and how will he be drafted in 2024?
There aren’t many stories in college football over the last few years that have been as intriguing as that of Oregon’s quarterback, Bo Nix. Following what has to be considered a tough time with the Auburn Tigers, Nix has been simply stellar in his performances with the Ducks.
Getting to know Bo Nix
It was 2019 when Bo Nix joined the Auburn Tigers as a four-star prospect and to be perfectly honest, he looked the part. After quickly securing his spot as the starting quarterback for the team, Nix went on to finish with a sensational 2,542 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and six interceptions. His pass completion rate of 57.6% along with 313 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 97 carries only further emphasised the point that we were witnessing a star in the making.
Where specific performances are concerned, mention has to be made of his contribution to the upset win over the Alabama Crimson Tide, a victory that put paid to the team’s aspirations of a College Football Playoff appearance. As for the Ducks, it was the first time they qualified for the postseason, with Nix eventually being named SEC Freshman of the Year. What followed was a somewhat complicated season as his numbers dropped to 2,415 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. There was also his completion rate of 59.9% to go with 388 yards and seven touchdowns on 108 carries. This is where the intrigue comes. Following that second season, Nix picked himself up in what would be his final season as a Tiger. He would finish with 2,294 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and three interceptions while completing 61.0% of his passes and adding a further 168 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 57 carries.
Bo Nix broke out with the Ducks
After a move to Oregon via the transfer portal, Nix truly announced himself to the football world. In his very first season with the Ducks, he threw for 3,593 yards, 29 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. His completion rate was an eye-opening 71.9% and he rushed for 510 yards and 14 touchdowns on 89 carries. Interestingly, he also caught two passes for 36 yards and a touchdown. This of course brings us to this season, where he’s seemingly adopted a ‘business as usual’ approach. With the Ducks heading into Pac-12 play this weekend, they’ve already seen three games and in those Nix has thrown for 893 yards, eight touchdowns, and no interceptions. In those contests, his completion rate has been 77.6% while adding 60 rushing yards on 11 carries. So, with all of this in mind, the question now is what comes next for Bo Nix?
Where could Bo Nix be selected in the 2024 NFL Draft?
Before we get to Nix, it’s worth mentioning that the quarterback class in the 2024 NFL Draft is absolutely loaded. There is of course 2022 Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams, but there are also several others such as Colrado’s Shedeur Sanders and the very talented J.J. McCarthy out of Michigan. The point here is that it’s going to be tough. With that said early projections have indicated that Nix will go late in the first round or early in the second. One of the reasons for that is the fact that unlike many of the others in his class, Nix is a little ‘older’ at 23 years old. On the other hand, it is crystal clear that we’re talking about an impressive player. So, don’t be surprised if you see a team in the NFL trading in to get him in the first round.
