Update:

Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck is now one win away from a national championship, and one game away from proving that one of the most expensive NIL investments in college football history was worth every dollar.

On January 19, Miami will face the Indiana Hoosiers in the College Football Playoff National Championship, capping a remarkable first-and-only season for Beck in Coral Gables after transferring from Georgia. With the Hurricanes playing for a title, attention has again turned to the deal that brought Beck to Miami in the first place.

So how much is Carson Beck actually making through NIL?

How much NIL money does Carson Beck make at Miami?

What is NIL money?

NIL, which stands for Name, Image and Likeness, allows college athletes to earn compensation through endorsements, appearances, licensing agreements, and other business ventures tied to their personal brand.

The system emerged after a 2021 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that struck down NCAA restrictions on athlete compensation. While the NCAA still classifies players as “amateurs,” NIL has effectively created an open marketplace, particularly for elite quarterbacks. And few players have benefited more than Carson Beck.

According to On3, Beck’s NIL valuation currently sits at $3.1 million, making him the third-highest-valued NIL athlete in college football this season.

Only two players rank ahead of him:

  • Arch Manning (Texas) - $5.3 million
  • Jeremiah Smith (Ohio State) - $4.2 million

Across all college sports, Beck’s valuation ranks fourth overall, trailing only Manning, Smith, and BYU basketball star AJ Dybantsa, whose NIL package is estimated at $4.4 million.

Despite mixed efficiency metrics (Beck ranked 36th nationally in Pro Football Network’s quarterback impact rankings), his market value remains elite due to his experience, position, and profile as a former SEC starter.

Was Beck paid more than $3.1 million?

When Beck transferred from Georgia for his final year of eligibility, early reports suggested Miami’s NIL package could reach $4 million to $6 million, with performance incentives included. Those numbers were later walked back.

Reporters Bruce Feldman and Manny Navarro of The Athletic reported that Beck’s deal was actually “a little over $3 million”, aligning closely with On3’s $3.1 million estimate.

Even at that level, Beck’s NIL compensation was substantial - nearly double what Miami reportedly paid his predecessor, Cam Ward, who earned approximately $1.6 million before becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Carson Beck’s season at Miami

In his lone season with the Hurricanes, Beck delivered steady production while guiding Miami through the College Football Playoff:

  • 14 games
  • 3,313 passing yards
  • 27 touchdowns
  • 10 interceptions
  • 74.4% completion percentage

Miami entered the season ranked No. 1 in ESPN SP+ offensive ratings, returned multiple offensive line starters, and built its offense around Beck’s accuracy and experience.

The result was a CFP run that now has Miami playing for its first national title since 2001.

How NIL impacts Beck’s NFL future

Beck is currently projected as a Day Three selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, though a strong performance in the national championship could improve his stock.

NIL has given Beck flexibility few quarterbacks had in previous eras - the ability to return to school, recover fully from injury, gain another year of starting reps, and earn millions in the process.

As one NFL scout previously put it:

“With NIL, he can make money and gain more experience.”

Now, with a championship on the line, Beck has a chance to add something no NIL valuation can quantify - a national title - to an already lucrative final chapter of his college career.
