The 2023 College Football Bowl season has given fans some great games so far. The playoff games were great matches between the top-four teams in the country with TCU beating Michigan 51-45 and Georgia edging Ohio State 42-41. Tons of scoring and lots of touchdowns, just what fans want to see.

Not all 2023 College Football Bowl games were high scoring

Not all games had high scores. Not all games had touchdowns: Kentucky lost 21-0 to Iowa in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl on New Year’s Eve and Florida was held to three points by Oregon State, who went on to score 30 points in the SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl.

The ReliaQuest Bowl at least gave us a couple of touchdowns, but what are some other low-scoring College Football Bowl games?

The lowest-scoring bowl game in modern history took place in 2008 when Oregon State beat Pittsburg 3 - 0 at the Brut Sun Bowl. The game has gone down in history as the “The worst bowl game ever.”

We’d have to go way back in time to find worse bowl games than the 2008 Brut Sun Bowl:

  • Rose Bowl, 1922 - California 0 & Washington & Jefferson 0
  • Sun Bowl, 1940 - Arizona State 0, Catholic 0
  • Cotton Bowl , 1947 - Arkansas 0, LSU 0
  • Cotton Bowl, 1959 - Air Force 0, TCU 0
  • Sugar Bowl, 1942 - Fordham 2, Missouri 0

The 19-10 game between Mississippi State and Illiinois was a defensive battle in which both teams’ offenses struggled, but it could have been worse.
