For the second year, the First Responder Bowl will be contested by two Texas teams. Last year’s winners, the Bobcats aim to retain the trophy.
Gerald J. Ford Stadium hosts the 15th edition of the the First Responder Bowl (originally dubbed the Dallas Football Classic) and for the second consecutive year, the trophy will be contested by two Texas programs.
The Texas State return to Dallas after beating the Rice Owls 45-21 last year in their first ever bowl game appearance. The Bobcats have been bowl eligible just twice since moving to Division I-FBS in the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) in 2013.
They will take on the North Texas Mean Green who finished ninth (6-6) in the American Athletic Conference and head into their 15th bowl game - the first since their Frisco Bowl defeat to Boise State in 2022. North Texas' bowl record is 3–11 - their last win was in 2014, precisely in this one, then known as the Heart of Dallas bowl.
The First Responder Bowl is invitational and does not form part of the the College Football Playoffs.
North Texas has faced Texas State a total of 39 times in program history - their second-most regular opponent. The Mean Green have a 29-7-3 all-time record against the Bobcats.
Texas State, who have won their last four games, head into the game as the big favorites.
When is the 2024 ReliaQuest Bowl?
The 2024 First Responder Bowl between the North Texas Mean Green and the Texas State Bobcats will take place at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas on Friday 3 January 2025 and is scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT (3 p.m. CT).
The game will air live on ESPN. Viewers in the United States will be able to stream ESPN’s coverage on Fubo (free trial available).
