With the legal tampering period having opened on Monday, NFL free agency is now well and truly underway. Yet, regardless of the team or the player in question, this all comes down to cap space which is why we’re taking a look at who has got it and who doesn’t.

The Chicago Bears have all the cap space they need

With some major names on the free agency market, it’s now clear that there will be some very creative movement where cap space is concerned, between Monday when the legal tampering period begins and Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. ET. When the league’s new year kicks off. To be clear, the 2023 NFL salary cap is set at $224.8 million, which in case you didn’t know is a $16.6 million increase from the 2022 season ($208.2 million). In terms of who has the most heading into this next campaign, that would be the Chicago Bears who have a projected $96.9 million in cap space. Following the bears, the Falcons are next in line with $62 million.

Truth be told, the Bears will be the undoubted stars of the offseason given the large amount of cap space that they have available, as well as the fact that they have the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft. Following a dismal season in which the team posted a record of 3-14, it goes without saying they will be looking to improve, and their current situation makes that all but certain. With the arrival of DJ Moore from the Panthers, large amounts of cap space and the No. 1 overall pick, this team is going places.
