Update:

The San Francisco 49ers have dominated their last two games, so much so that they actually achieved something the NFL has never seen before.

With their latest offensive outburst, the 49ers became the first team in league history to score at least 80 points over a two-game span without punting a single time, a combination that had never previously been achieved.

Teams have gone two games without punting. Others have crossed the 80-point threshold over short stretches. But until now, no team had managed to do both at the same time.

No punts, 80+ points: The 49ers’ historic two-game run

What makes the 49ers’ accomplishment so remarkable isn’t simply the point total. It’s the flawlessness behind it. Over the two-game span, San Francisco never once surrendered possession via punt. Every drive either ended in points, a turnover, or the end of a half. The 49ers’ offense has showcased sustained, mistake-free execution.

Scoring 80-plus points across two games typically comes with at least a handful of stalled drives. San Francisco avoided that entirely, consistently moving the chains and finishing possessions.

The rarity of the feat becomes clearer when looking at near-misses across NFL history. Earlier this season, the Indianapolis Colts came close by going two straight games without punting to open the 2025 season. However, Indianapolis totaled 56 combined points in those games, well short of the 80-point benchmark the 49ers eclipsed.

Avoiding punts over two games demands precision on early downs, discipline in the red zone, and an ability to adapt. The 49ers checked all those boxes, repeatedly. Whether the streak continues or not, the record now belongs solely to San Francisco.
