WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM LAMBEAU!!!
Today’s odds
Taking a look at the today’s odds, the Packers come into the game as obvious favorites. They are at home and they are playing a banged up Niners team. Green Bay is a 5.5 point favorite, and the Over/Under is set at 44.5.
Call me crazy, but I think this is going to be a close game. The Niners have a lot of weapons on the offensive side of the ball. Christian McCaffery is going to have a big day, not just in the run game, but they will get him the ball with plenty of screen passes and check downs out of the backfield. I’m not saying the Niners win the game, but I think they keep it close.
Packers win 24-21.
NFC Standings
Taking a look at the standings in the NFC, we see the Detroit Lions at the top of the table with a record of 9-1. They have been the best team in the league for, even when the Chiefs were on their undefeated run. The NFC North is by far the best division in football, with three of it’s four teams at 7 wins or more through the first 11 weeks of the season. The Packers are one of those teams at 7-3, and if the season ended today, they would have one of the Wild Card spots. If the season ended today, the Niners wouldn’t be in the plalyoffs. They could have a chance at the Wild Card spot, but they are going to have a much better chance of winning the NFC West, which they are currently at the bottom of. The Cardinals are leading the division at 6-4, just a game above the other three teams that are locked at 5-5.
Star watch: Packers
It wasn’t so long ago that Josh Jacobs was the top rusher in the league for the Las Vegas Raiders. He got out of the purgatory that is the Raiders organization and joined a team on the ascendency in the Packers. They have a young QB, a tough defense and a group of receivers that are coming into their own. Jacobs came to Green Bay during the offseason and hasn’t just filled the shoes of Aaron Jones, he has one upped him. He is third in rushing yards with 838 yards and he’s got 4 TDs on the ground with another 186 yards and 1 TD in the air. We have seen running backs making a huge impact in the first year with their new team and Jones is one of the running backs that has made the biggest difference on a team that was already good last year. How far can Jacobs carry the Packers this season? The cheeseheads will be hoping he’s the missing piece that will get Green Bay back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2010.
Star watch: Niners
With no Brock Purdy, the focus shifts on Christian McCaffery even more than usual. He is the reigning Offensive Player of the Year, and despite missing the first half of the season, he has come back and already had a big impact on this team. He has played just two games, the win against the Bucs and the loss to the Seahawks. He had 100 total yards in both of those games, but has yet to get into the end zone. Today he will get a heavy dose of the ball, but Jordan Mason will also feature in the backfield just to make sure that McCaffery doesn’t get overworked in just his third week back from injury.
Brandon Allen
Brock Purdy was ruled out with a shoulder injury earlier this week, which means the Niners will have back up QB, Brandon Allen under center. Allen has been in th league since 2016 when he was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has bounced around the league as a back up, but has only played in 16 games and started just 9. He is 2-7 in those games, and passed for 10 TDs with 6 INTs. He hasn’t thrown a pass with the Niners in the year and a half he’s been there, and the last pass he threw came back in 2022 when he was playing with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Season recap: Packers
The Packers started their season in Brazil with a loss to the Eagles, and lost their QB for a few weeks after that. While all seemed lost, Malik Willis came in under center and carried the team to their first two wins. Love came back in a tough game against the Vikings and the Packers lost by just two points. They rattled off five straight games before losing to the Lions a couple weeks ago. Detroit beat them by 10 points, which was the only game they have lost by more than five points. Green Bay comes into today on the cusp of being an elite team, but they have a tough stretch of games starting with their game today against the Niners.
Season recap: Niners
It’s been a rough go for the Niners who have had to deal with a handful of injuries over the first 11 weeks of the season. First it was Christian McCaffery who’s achilles injury that kept him out Week 1 turned into a major problem that forced him to miss the first half of the season. Then Brandon Aiyuk suffered a season ending knee injury in Week 7, and now it’s Brock Purdy and Joey Bosa who have been ruled out for today’s game. The Niners are 5-5 coming into today, and technically at the bottom of the NFC West, but it’s a tight NFC West that is only separated by one game. The season is by no means over, but they have to turn things around sooner rather than later.
Last game: Packers
The Green Bay Packers went into Chicago and beat the Bears for the 11th straight time, but it didn’t come without a scare. Jordan Love hit Jayden Reed on a TD pass early in the game and the Packers took the lead, but the Bears looked like the better team for much of the game. They took a 10-7 lead right before halftime. Jordan Love only threw the ball 17 times, but he had 261 as the Packers chased the Bears for most of the second half. The game changing play came late in the 4th quarter when Love found Christian Watson on a 60 yard pass play that would set up a Josh Jacobs field goal that put the Packers up 20-19 with three minutes left. Chicago would march down the field, and set up a game winning Chris Santos field goal, but it go blocked by Karl Brooks and the Packers became the second team in two weeks to win a game on a “block off” on the final play of the 4th quarter.
Last game: Niners
The Niners had a crucial division battle against the Seahawks in Levis Stadium. It wasn’t a pretty game from San Fran. Both offenses struggled to move the ball, and ultimately get the ball into the end zone, but the Niners took the lead with an early fourth quarter TD catch from Jauan Jennings who was the only Niner who you could say had a good game. The TD put the Niners up 17-13, and the defense would stop Seattle on a 4th and 1 inside SF territory on the next possession, but the Seahawks got another shot with under 2:30 to go. Geno Smith moved the ball into the red zone with 12 seconds to go, he tucked the ball, sprinted to the end zone for a 13 yard TD that shut the door on the Niners and dropped them to 5-5.
We are live from Lambeau
Hello everyone and welcome to the Frozen Tundra where the arctic conditions haven’t quite set in yet, but it’s still chilly in Green Bay. The Packers come into this massive NFC showdown on the heels of a last second blocked field goal to keep them in the hunt in the NFC North, but they are going to have to make up ground if they are going to catch the division leading Lions. For the first time in a while, the Niners are out of the hunt for the one seed in the NFC, and will need to turn all of their attention to winning the NFC West or trying to sneak into the playoffs after an injury filled start to the season. They have a chance to get a big win tonight but they will have to do so without their starting QB, and one of the best pass rushers in the league.
