Aaron Rodgers already regretting Steelers move? NFL insider thinks so

Rodgers created quite the drama this offseason, waiting ages before finally signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rumor has it he may already regret it.

Update:

The Aaron Rodgers story was a whole saga this offseason. Would he retire, would he sign with the Steelers, would he wait it out to see if he could sign with the Vikings? He took his time making a decision, but at some point it became clear that Pittsburgh was going to be the most likely outcome for Rodgers, who is probably playing his last season in the NFL this year. Now that he’s there, he may already be regretting it.

Steelers’ slow start has Aaron Rodgers second-guessing move, per report

Rodgers’ other top options ahead of this season included the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings. When Matthew Stafford signed his extension in L.A., however, the Rams were out of the question. And the Vikings didn’t seem to show any interest in Rodgers. So, when the Steelers released Russell Wilson, Rodgers seemed a sure sign in Pittsburgh.

He did wait it out though, all the way until long after the draft had ended. But now that he’s with the Steelers, the team’s slow start has raised questions about whether he made the right decision. The Steelers won their first game over the Jets - Rodgers’ former team - by just two points, but they lost their second against the Seattle Seahawks.

According to NFL insider Mike Florio, Rodgers might privately regret not waiting for a midseason opportunity on a more playoff-ready roster, especially with quarterback injuries opening up elsewhere in the league.

“When you look at all the quarterback injuries now, and there’s five quarterbacks who are injured and missing time, Rodgers may ask himself in a quiet moment if he should have just waited for a serious quarterback injury and not signed on with the team,” said Florio on 93.7 The Fan. “Because if things don’t change quickly, he’s not going to get that playoff berth that he wants to cap his career with.”

With struggles on both sides of the ball, pressure is mounting on Tomlin to deliver before Rodgers’ final seasons slip away.

“This all comes back to Tomlin. This is his defense,” said Florio. “It’s really odd. With all the effort that seemingly was put on making the offense better, the stuff that’s been the bread and butter of Pittsburgh football, the defense and the running game, it just hasn’t been what it needs to be in the year that you get Aaron Rodgers and they get the upgrade.”
