With the Vikings seemingly out of the picture for Rodgers, the Steelers are one of the top options for the free agent to end up, but does coach want him?

Update:

While quarterback Aaron Rodgers stated his top pick of the contenders for his next team as the Minnesota Vikings, they’ve reportedly decided to stop pursuing him and are sticking with J.J. McCarthy under center instead.

That leaves the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers as the top options for Rodgers to sign, and the Giants are getting tired of the chase. So what about the Steelers?

Mike Tomlin makes bold quarterback decision

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has reportedly made up his mind between their 2024 quarterback Russell Wilson and free agent Aaron Rodgers.

Tomlin wants Rodgers, and he is apparently not going to let anyone else stand in his way of getting him.

According to a report by Gerry Dulac, Tomlin believes Rodgers is their ticket to the Super Bowl. “Mike Tomlin is the one who wants Rodgers, and apparently, the people in charge are not disagreeing,” said Dulac.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler also said he “gets the sense” that the Steelers are willing to wait for Rodgers.

“I’m told that Aaron Rodgers has standing offers from both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants, so it’s up to him to decide,” Fowler said. “This is his first foray into free agency in 20 years, so really nobody outside of his inner circle knows exactly what to expect. I get the sense, although this is fluid, the sense that Pittsburgh is willing to wait this out a little bit. Rodgers is their top target, so they’ll see where it goes."

Of course, Rodgers does have a third option if he doesn’t want to go to Pittsburgh or New York: retirement.
