Last season disaster struck Hutchinson after he broke his leg on October 13, 2024 during a Week 5 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

In May 2025 of this year, he announced that he was fully cleared for football activity adding: “I’m exactly where I need to be” and that “every year I’ve been able to improve on my own physical attributes along with the mental ones.”

All indications suggest he will be fully healthy and ready for the start of the 2025 NFL season.

Hutchinson is currently playing on his four-year rookie contract with the Detroit Lions, which he signed on May 9, 2022.The total value of this contract is $35,713,388, with $35,713,388 fully guaranteed.It also included a $23,153,372 signing bonus.

The Lions have also exercised the fifth-year option on his contract, which means he is currently under contract through the 2026 season. For 2026, his projected salary is approximately $19.87 million (if classified as a defensive end, which is the more likely and cheaper classification compared to linebacker).

There is significant discussion and anticipation that Hutchinson will sign a long-term extension with the Lions in the near future. Some reports suggest that his new contract could be worth over $40 million per year, potentially making him one of the highest-paid non-quarterbacks in the NFL.
