Update:

The New York Giants suffered another defeat on Sunday, slipping to a 2-12 record with a loss to the Washington Commanders.

The Giants have endured a difficult 2025 season but there have been spots of promise, primarily behind the impressive rookie seasons from Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo. Dart, in particular, shows real promise and could be the franchise quarterback for the next decade.

But Dart’s susceptibility to heavy hits has been exposed repeatedly this season and he suffered another blow against the Commanders. Dart was forced to exit the game in the fourth quarter after being tackled by both Javon Kinlaw and Eddie Goldman.

That 639-pound duo sent Dart to the injury tent and sparked another wave of concern about his fitness. Fortunately he was able to return to the field and does not seem to have any lasting effects from the collision.

There has been discussion about the number of hits that Dart has taken this season, questions about the offensive plays that the Giants are going with. However interim Giants coach Mike Kafka has said that he is not planning to change the team’s offensive setup.

“We’re not gonna change much in terms of how we play the game,” Kafka said after the Commanders game. “I think just having the thought process for how we scheme it up. We had a couple opportunities where he’s protected and he’s got somebody in front of him.”

“On that one particular play where he got out, that was a pass. I think there’s not much you can do there. Of course we have his health, and everyone’s health, in mind when we call plays.”

Across the game Dart ran the ball six times, recording 63 rushing yards. His mobility remains a key part of his game but the Giants may want to consider the physical toll that the all-action style of play places on Dart’s body.
