Antonio Brown went from winning a Super Bowl LV ring to filing for bankruptcy. His social media channel CTESPN Network broke the news that the former wide receiver, who won the Super Bowl with Tom Brady against Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs is officially broke.

Brown was fired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in January 2022. He breached franchise regulations by stripping out of his uniform following a disagreement he had with coach Bruce Arians in the middle of the Week 17 game against the New York Jets.

According to journalist Dov Kleiman and documents filed Monday in federal bankruptcy court in Florida, Brown, who filed for bankruptcy this week, owes at least eight creditors around $3 million. Among them, Anton Tumanov, a Florida truck driver who was reportedly assaulted by Brown and awarded $1.2 million in compensation. Brown failed to appear in court after being sued by the deliveryman in 2019. According to the documents, Brown also cannot pay at least three six-figure civil judgments.

Antonio Brown never far from controversy

Brown earned approximately $88 million during his NFL career. His last contract was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team with which he signed for one year and $6.5 million dollars. He claims to have less than $50,000 in assets.

Antonio Brown has not stayed away from controversy since retiring from the NFL. In early December 2022, Florida authorities issued an arrest warrant for the charge of assault towards his ex-fiancee although the charges were later dropped and the pair resolved their differences in private.

That same year, he caused a scandal after exposing himself to a woman in a hotel swimming pool while on vacation in Dubai, a situation for which he was severely criticized. He retorted on Twitter: “It’s crazy to me that even after I retire there is disinformation coming out about me. Ironically, during a time when the NFL is getting heat for allowing players to play when they’re clearly concussed. They’ve been using black men as guinea pigs.”
