Are the Panthers eliminated from playoff contention?

The Carolina Panthers' 30-14 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday resulted in a franchise record the team would rather not have set.

The Carolina Panthers have been on the brink of playoff elimination for weeks now, with this Sunday’s 30-14 loss to the Dallas Cowboys finally making it official. With this failure to clinch a playoff berth, the Panthers have set an unwanted franchise record.

Panthers set franchise record for consecutive postseason droughts

This marks the Panthers’ seventh straight season without a playoff berth, an all-time high for playoff droughts for the franchise. All seven of those seasons have come under the ownership of David Tepper.

Tepper took over as the Panthers' owner in 2018 and since then, the team is 34-79 and has yet to make it to the postseason. Their seven-season playoff drought is currently the third-longest active playoff drought, behind the New York Jets (14 seasons, including this one), and Denver Broncos (eight).

With three games still left to play this season, the Panthers are just looking forward to next season already. With the standings as they are now (Sunday afternoon), the Panthers would have the third pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, so they can at least look forward to that.
