Update:

Derrick Henry’s early season woes continued in the Baltimore Ravens’ 38-30 loss to the Detroit Lions on Monday night. The star running back fumbled for the third straight game.

Derrick Henry’s fumbling woes reach breaking point in loss to Lions

Henry’s latest miscue came in the fourth quarter of a tight contest against the Lions. Aidan Hutchinson stripped the ball from behind, setting up Detroit to extend its lead. Henry, visibly frustrated on the sideline, slamming his helmet to the ground, later admitted he was “at a loss for words” and apologized to Ravens fans.

“It’s just crazy. Three fumbles [in three games] straight,” Henry said. “I’m trying every day to fix the problem that just keeps occurring, so I’m trying to work on it. I’m my worst critic, so I’m not going to try to beat myself up too much, but it’s hard not to when it’s consecutive and consistent [instances] of me doing the same thing.”

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he doesn’t think Henry’s banana fingers will be a problem going forward, but acknowledges that they “have to get it fixed”.

“That was kind of a blind shot there. I thought he had the ball in good position,” said Harbaugh. “I thought the defender got a good look at it, though. It was kind of a retrace cutback play. So, [it was] a little bit of the perfect storm, but still, we just want to protect the football; all our guys do, and we have to do it. We have to be good at it.”

Monday night’s third straight fumble tied the longest streak of Henry’s career, raising concerns after he lost just three fumbles across all of last season. Baltimore’s offense also sputtered, producing only 85 rushing yards, its lowest two-game stretch since Lamar Jackson became the starter in 2018.

Henry finished with 50 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown, but the Ravens must quickly find answers ahead of a short-week clash with the Kansas City Chiefs.
