Baltimore Ravens 27 vs 22 Tampa Bay Buccaneers summary: stats and highlights | NFL Week 8

The Baltimore Ravens won their second straight game for the first time this year and at the same time sent the Tampa Bay Buccaneers spiraling to their third straight loss on Thursday night. Lamar Jackson passed for 238 yards and two touchdowns in the 27-22 victory from Raymod James Stadium.

Early muffed punt bad Bucs omen

Both the Bucs and the Ravens came into Thursday night’s game struggling on the offensive side of the ball. Baltimore’s points production had gone plummeting over the last three weeks while the Bucs offense has yet to be cleared for take off this season.

Baltimore didn’t get off to a great start to open the game, but jumped on a loose ball after a muffed punt by Dee Delany. The Ravens failed to punch the ball in to the end zone after recovering at the TB 6 yard line. Red Zone efficiency is something that had been troubling coach Harbaugh’s side for the last few weeks.

Tom Brady and the Bucs bit back with an opening possession touchdown set up by a 44 yard catch and run to Chris Godwin. A few plays later Leonard Fournette powered his way over the goal line on a one yard run to give the Bucs a 7-3 lead.

Baltimore shut down in first half

The Ravens offense continued to struggle, going three and out on their next two drives. In the meantime Ryan Succop hit a field goal to extend the lead to 10-3.

The Ravens would get into the red zone once more before half, but they turned it over on downs at the TB 9, and then the Tampa Bay special teams unit came up with a blocked field goal as the clock hit zero to keep the score at 10-3 going into the second half.

The visitors came out looking like a different team. Baltimore got back to their run game on their first possession out of the halftime break and it led nine play 77 yard TD drive capped off by a five yard pass from Jackson to Kenyan Drake to tie the game up at 10-10.

Ravens run for 231 yards

Those same demons we have seen plague the Bucs offense all season came back again in the second half. Moving the ball hasn’t been as much as a problem as scoring the ball, and the Bucs could not convert in the second half when they got in the red zone.

Baltimore went up 17-10 at the end of the third quarter when Jackson found Isaiah Likely on a 10 yard TD catch. The rookie, Likely, was forced in when Mark Andrews went down with a shoulder injury in the second quarter. The Ravens back up tight end went for 77 yards on six catches one of which was the go-ahead touchdown.

The Bucs responded with a field goal on the next drive, but Baltimore would again find the end zone on a third straight possession. This time it was Devin Duvernay who took a jet sweep 15 yards to the house two make it 24-13 with under seven minutes to go in the game. The run game wore down the Bucs defense in the second half as Gus Edwards Kenyan Drake and Lamar Jackson combined for 170 of the Baltimore’s 231 yards the ground on Thursday night.

Tampa's terrible red zone day

Tampa Bay would get down to the BAL 3 yard line but a false start on 4th and Goal backed the Bucs up and coach Todd Bowles decided to take the field goal to close the gap to 24-16.

Ravens run game wasn’t done. Drake opened the next drive with a 40 yard run to get into Bucs territory and secure a Justin Tucker field goal to seal the game right before the Two Minute Warning.

Tom Brady would lead one last touchdown drive, but it was too little too late and the Bucs fell for the third straight game. Brady threw for 325 yards, but Tampa Bay have to figure out a way to get into the end zone when in striking distance.

The Ravens have just one game over the next 23 days with the long weeks rest ahead of the Saints game next Sunday and then have a bye before taking on the Panthers on the 20th.

The Bucs will look to stop the bleeding when they host the Los Angeles Rams next week. It's looking like their saving grace is going to be playing in a dreadful NFC South.

Devin Duvernay made it a two possession game with this 15 yard jet sweep for a TD. As the game went on you could see the Bucs defense getting tired, and that's when the ground game kicked it.

Mark Andrews was hurt early in the game which made way fro Isaiah Likely who had the night of his young NFL career. the rookie went for 77 yards and a touchdown on 6 catches.

This drive may have ended with a Kenyan Drake TD pass, but it was set up by the run game. The Ravens came out of the halftime break intent on getting the ground game going and rushed for almost 200 second half yards.

The Ravens had a chance to chip into the 10-3 lead before half, but Justin Tucker's kick was blocked and the Ravens went to the break without a TD.

For most of the first half, the Bucs kept Lamar Jackson in check. The Ravens run game couldn't get going and the D line was constantly applying pressure in the backfield.

A 44 yard hook up between Brady and Godwin set up the Leonard Fournette run for a yard out.

A Dee Delany muffed punt set up the Ravens first score of the game. Baltimore got it at the 6, but couldn't punch it into the endzone, and had to settle for a field goal.

Baltimore send the Bucs spiriling as the Ravens solidify their spot at the top of the AFC North with the 27-22 win.

Likely makes the recovery on the onside kick and that will do it from Tampa Bay!.

After a defensive holding call on the two point conversion the Bucs run it from the 1 yard line, but White was stopped in the backfield and the conversion fails.

TB will need to recover the onside kick and get a touchdown in the next 49 seconds.

Three straight Brady incompletions bring up 4th and Goal from the 8.

Brady to Evans for a 6 yard gain ,and the Bucs have 1st and Goal from the BAL 8.

Brady with a short pass to Fournette and the RB takes it 15 yards on the catch and run.

Timeout Bucs with 1:15 to go. 1st and 10 from the BAL 19.

Brady over the middle to Otton and he picks up 10 yards to move the chains.

1st and 10 from the BAL 34.

Brady is sacked by Madubuike for a 4 yard loss and that will keep the clock running and bring up 3rd and 8 from the BAL. 44.

Brady on the shallow cross to Miller and he gets out of bounds after a 6 yard gain.

2nd and 4 from the 40.

The pass is ruled incomplete but the penalty stands so the Bucs will have 1st and 10 from the BAL 46.

Brady to Jones for a 21 yard gain and the refs tack on another 15 yards after a roughing the passer flag, but the play is under review.

Here comes Brady and the Bucs from the 25.

Brady out of the backfield to Fournette for a 14 yard gain and that brings us to the Two Minute Warning.

FIELD GOAL BALTIMORE!!!

As if it was ever in question. Tucker puts this game on ice with a 30 yard field goal.

Tampa Bay need a miracle with 2:12 left down 27-16.

Drake is stopped on 3rd and 1 for no gain and the Ravens should kick the FG with 2:16 on the clock.

Timeout TB, it's their first of the half.

Hill with a 5 yards gain on the right side, but gets down in bounds and keeps the clock running.

3rd and 1 coming up.

Jackson scrambles for 4 yards and the Ravens have 2nd and 6 with 3 minutes to go.

Drake busting a third down run to the right side and he busrts for a 40 yard gain to start the drive.

Duvernay with a great return on the kick taking it out to the BAL 39.

FIELD GOAL BUCS!!!

Succop bangs home the 26 yard field goal and we have a one possession game. . The false start prevented TB from going for it on 4th and Goal from the 2 and now the Bucs have a lot of work to do.

The Bucs were going to go for it, but a false start forced the Bucs to bring the FG unit out.

Brady finds Jones on the left side line for a 13 yard gain, but that will leave the Bucs with a 4th and Goal from the 2.

BIGGEST PLAY OF THE GAME COMING UP.

Brady on the run and finds Otton in the end zone, but a holding call will take the touchdown off the board.

3rd and Goal from the 16 after the flag.

Two incomplete passes, one that should have been picked, lead to a 3rd and Goal from the 6.

The Bucs need a field goal, so if they don't get the TD it's not the end of the world.

Jacksonn rolled right and looked to be setting up an option play, but pulls up and throws down field hitting LIkely for 16 yards.

Edwards walked off the field which is a good sign, but he goes to the tent to get checked on .

On first down from the 25 its Edwards getting 22 yards to open the drive, but he goes down and stays down.

That's not a good sight for a guy that miseed over 600 days due to injury and just made his return last week.

How do the Ravens protect their lead? They have commited 7 4th quarter turnovers and given up double digit leads in all of their losses.

Succop hits the 30 yard field goal after the Bucs are stopped short of the endzone. Tampa Bay is just 1-3 in the red zone tongiht.

Baltimore still lead 17-13 with 12:26 to go in the 4th.

Brady rolling and rolling and looking, but had to tuck and run as a last resort but picked up 2 yards before getting whacked.

4th and 8 and the Ravens will kick a field goal.

Brady was almost picked off after Evans was not on the same page with him again!.

Brady had Rudolph in the endzone but couldn't connect with the back up TE.

It's Evans sprinting down the sidelines and making the 51 yard catch in traffic. What a throw from the 37 year old.

Brady picks up the first down on a 7 yard connection with Godwin on 2nd and 6 to start the fourth quarter.

The Ravens take their first lead since their early first quarter field goal off the muffed punt. Jackson found Likely for a 10 yard TD pass right before the 3rd quarter ended.

Brady to Godwin on the opening play of the drive and that goes for 4 yards and takes us to the fourth quarter.

The Ravens take the lead right before the end of the third quarter. Tampa Bay has work to do if they want to end their losing skid.

Here come the Bucs looking to turn the offense back on. It looked great in the first two drives, but has died down since then.

Hill gets three yards on first down.

What a play from Robinson. Brady tossed it out to the flat for him on 3rd and long and he danced around three or four defenders and cut up the sideline for a 15 yard gain.

Jackson trying to do it with his feet but he is swallowed up for a loss of a yard.

Edwards running right for a short gain of maybe 2.

Hill picks up 12 yards and the 1st down with a run up the middle.

Jackson sacked for a loss of one by Tyron.

Jackson over the middle to Likely for a gain of 17. He was in traffic, but still made the catch and broke a few tackles to get some yards after contact.

Drake gets three yards on 2nd and 8, and that brings up a 3rd and manageable for the Ravens.

Edwards up the middle out of the shot gun and he gets a short gain of 2.

On first down it's Duvernay on the jet sweep and he picks up 17 yards to start the drive.

On 3rd and 2 Brady goes over the middle but Evans was not on the same page.

End around to Jones who got stopped at the line of scrimmage. He has been injured for the last few weeks and that's the first time we have seen him tonight.

Drake gets the first down hand off and picks up 6 yards.

Pass to the flat for Duvernay and he gets a few blocks to spring him for a 13 yard gain.

On 3rd and 1 Edwards breaks it for an 11 yard gain and the Ravens are the the TB 32 with a first down.

Edwards with a couple consecutive rushes to set up 3rd and 1.

FOR THE FIRST TIME TONIGHT WE SEE SOME MAGIC FROM JACKSON!!!

He kept it on the RPO and took it up the middle, spun out of a tackle and picked up 25 yards.

He had just a yard in the first half on the ground. Will that get him and the Ravens offense going?

Brady pressured in the backfield and he throws it in the dirt. Big three and out forced by the Ravens coming into the second half.

Their offense has moved the ball but  been toothless around the end zone. They get the ball back from their 23 looking to tie this game up.

Brady's pass is incomplete to Evans on 2nd down and the Bucs will have 3rd and 8 out of the gate.

Fournette gets the opening hand off on 1st down and he picks up 4 yards.

WE ARE BACK IN PLAY FROM RAYMOND JAMES!!!

The Bucs start their drive from their 25, looking to add on to their 7 point lead.

The Ravens had a chance to chip into the lead, but Tucker's FG was blocked by O'Connor to end the half.

A 44 yard pass to Godwin set up this 1 yard Fournette TD run on the Bucs opening drive of the night.

Brady has 142 yards on 10/17 passing, while Fournette has 20 yards on 8 carreis and the sole touchdown of the night.

The early muffed punt by Delany set up the Ravens at the TB 6 yard line, but they had to settle for a field goal.

Lamar Jackson has 144 yards passing, but just a yard rusing.

The Ravens acutally out gained the the Bucs 156-152, but Leonard Fournetter and Tampa Bay got into the end zone on the first drive of their night and that's what makes the difference

I can't say the lack of points is surprising. Both of these teams were struggling to find the end zone and those struggles continue tonight.

BLOCKED!!!

Tucker's 61 yard field goal attempt is BLOCKED by O'Connor and the Bucs go into the halftime break up 10-3!

Jackson hits Proche for 12 yards and the Ravens get up the field and spike it at the TB 43.

Field goal attempt coming up and it will bring up a 61 yard for Tucker.

Jackson's pass was incomplete, but TB's Tryon was called for a personal foul facemask and the Ravens will have a first down at the BAL 45.

Jackson rolling right and finds Likely for a first down on the 14 yard gain.

BAL had one more timeout left and they take it with 30 seconds to go in the half.

Jackson to Drake out of the backfield for a gain of two and the RB gets out of bounds with 41 seconds left.

Duvernay returns it 7 yards to the BAL 13 and the Ravens will have 46 seconds, but no timeouts to get down the field.

Brady is sacked on second and third down! Brady had no one to go to and had to eat the sack.

4th and long coming up and it looks like we will go to the half at 10-3.

Brady slings one down the right side line to Evans who was surrounded by two Bucs defenders and the Bucs WR comes up with the snag.

Brady's pass is batted up in the air at the line and falls harmlessly for an incompletion.

3rd and 3 coming up after the Ravens 1st timeout with 1:31 to go in the 1st half.

The Ravens go for it on 4th and 2 and Jackson was looking for Robinson in the endzone, but Dean breaks it up the end zone and the Ravens turn it over on downs.

There is less than 5 minutes to go in the half and the Ravens have yet to get going on the offensive end.

The Ravens don't pick up the fourth and forever, and are forced to punt after making progress up the field. They started that drive from their 4 yard line and pin the Bucs back to the TB 14.

Jackson under heavy pressure and he was twisting, turning, and backing up until he had no other option but to throw it out and he was flagged for intentional grounding.

On 1st and 20 Jackson hits Robinson for four yards on a short pass.

2nd and 16 from the BAL 48.

Drake on the screen pass picks up a yard, maybe two but an offensive pass interference penalty will wipe that play out and back Baltimore to 1st and 20 from the BAL 46.

They won't need to worry about 4th down. Edwards on the counter up the middle for a gain of 5 yards on 3rd and short.

1st and 10 for the Ravens who are at the TB 41.

Jackson has the Bucs defense on their toes with a nice blend of RPO's and short passes.

They are countering the Bucs blitz package right now, but they will have a 3rd and 2 from midfield.

Could be four down territory for the Ravens.

Great catch by Robinson on the out route on the right side. He took a hit but kept hold of the ball to move the chains on the 9 yard gain.

Jackson is dropped in the backfield for the second time tonight, this time by Barrett for a three yard loss.

Baltimore take over from their 4 yard line after a great punt from Camarda.

Edwards spins out of a tackle in the backfield and cuts it outside for a gain of 11. Talk about turning a negative to a positive, Edwards looked dead in the dumps in the backfield.

Brady on a quick pass to Godwin, but Stone jarred it out of the hands of the receiver to force a fourth down and the Ravens finally get a stop.

White with a similar run up the middle for a similar result.

Another nice return from the Bucs as Darden picks up 15 on the punt return to take TB to their 45 yard line to start their third drive.

On 3rd and 22 the Ravens run a screen to stay conservative deep in their own territory. The pass to Duvernay went for a short gain and Baltimore will punt again.

Jackson is dropped in the backfield for a 13 yard sack after the big boy Vea drops the most mobile quarterback in the NFL.

That brings us to the end of the 1st quarter! The Ravens couldn't capitalize on the early turnover and the Bucs offense was been rolling for the first time in a long time.

Jackson to the air on first down from the 25 and his pass to Likely is off the mark.

Succop drills the 31 yard field goal and Tampa Bay lead by a touchdown early in the first half.

Bucs are up 10-3 with 26 seconds to go in the first quarter.

Brady looking for Otton over the middle on 3rd and long and he overthrew his receiver. He is filling in for Cameron Brate who suffered a scray neck injury last week.

The Bucs will settle for a field goal after the 10 play drive.

Brady going to the corner of the endzone for Evans, but Evans couldn't get his outstretched hands on the pass on the left side.

3rd and Goal coming up from the 13.

The Ravens finally get a stop on one of those short passes to the flat, as they drop White for a two yard loss.

2nd and 12 from the 13.

Another quick pass to the slot for Perriman gets another easy 11 yards and the Bucs have 1st and 10 from the 11.

Fournette moves the chains on 2nd and 1 and the Bucs have 1st and 10 from the BAL 30.

Brady hits Godwin on the WR screen to the flat and he picks up 9 yards.

That's as good as a hand off for Brady, and it get the Bucs close to moving the chains for 2nd down.

Fournette dropped in the backfield on the first down run.

Darden almost broke it on the punt return! He had a seam of space that closed quickly, but he was still able to pick up 17 yards and the Bucs will start from their 37 yard line.

Jackson extending the play by spinning and turning and reversing, but when he got some time to throw, he couldn't find Proche down the field.

4th and 7 and the Ravens will punt for the second time tonight.

Edwards was swallowed up in the backfield on the run to the left side.

Baltimore starts the drive from the 25 and Jackson over the middle to Oliver for a 4 yard gain on first down.

Fournette has been pleading for the ball. The fans have been pleading for Fournette to get the ball. The media has been begging for Fournette to get the ball. And on the one yard line, the Bucs give Fournette the ball for the 1 yard TD>

Brady going to the back of the endzone for a wide open Mike Evans, but he couldn't keep his feet down.

A flag flew for defensive holding and the Bucs will get a 1st and Goal from the BAL 5.

Brady took a chance down the field on 2nd and 1 and off the play action he finds Godwin over the middle and he took it 44 yards up the side line to bring the Bucs to 1st and Goal from the BAL 8.

Fournette with a nine yard gain on his first rush of the night and then picks up the first down on 3rd and short.

Brady starting from the 25 and he almost gets picked on his first throw of the night. The Bucs are getting away with a lot right now. He was looking for Otton but skied him and lives to see another play with out a turnover.

Delany couldn't handle the punt and the Ravens couldn't punch it in the end zone from the 6.

Tucker knocks home the 22 yard field goal, but the Ravens have been struggling to punch the ball over the goal line in recent weeks and they start this game off leaving points on the field.

Baltimore lead after the Bucs fumble. It's 3-0 after four minute.

Jackson's pass to Andrews  in the endzone is broken up by McCollum and the Bucs defense avert disaster after the muffed punt by Delany.

4th and Goal from the 4.

Jackson was stopped for a loss of 4 yards on a run to the right and then found Proche for 6 yards to bring up 3rd and Goal from the TB 4.

Delany muffs the punt inside the 10 and the Ravens will take over from the 6!!

The Bucs D comes back on the field with BAL knocking on the door.

Jackson over the middle looking for Andrews again, but there were two Bucs defenders all over the TE.

According to BET365.com the Buccaneers are a 2 points favorite and the Over/Under is 46.5. I’m taking the under. I think the Bucs defense keeps Lamar Jackson in check tonight while Tom Brady and Tampa Bay’s offense continue to struggle tonight against this improved Ravens D.

Dual-threat Jackson

Through Week 3 the Ravens quarterback was averaging 250 yards through the air and had 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions. Since then he has just three touchdowns and four interceptions and Baltimore has gone 2-2 in those games. As we all know Lamar is much more than just a one dimensional QB. His running ability is what sets him apart from the rest of the bunch, and he is a top five rusher in the NFL with 510 yards through seven weeks of the season.

Brady regretting return?

Tom Brady has been unflappable in his two decade career in the NFL. He has done everything, and won everything. He could have retired after last season and sat on his throne as the best football player of all time. Instead he decided to return to the girdiron, which has affected his personal life, and is putting a damper on the final part of his career. There is still time to right the ship but if the Bucs offense doesn’t get going soon, Brady might live to regret his decision to return for ever.

Ravens ramping up the D?

Baltimore’s defense has been it’s Achilles heel all season long. The Ravens have given up double digit leads in each of their three losses and were on the verge of giving up another one on Sunday against the Browns. The good news for Ravens fans is the defense looks to be sorting itself out. Over the last four games they are giving up an average of 21 points a game, which you would think would be enough for Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore offense, but they have scored 20.5 points per game in the last four weeks, resulting in two wins and two losses.

Bucs bismal offense

As you would have expected, Tom Brady was one of the favorites to win the NFL MVP during the preseason, but no one could have expected how the Bucs offense would be performing seven weeks into the season. Brady’s Bucs are scoring just 17.7 points a game and in the last three games, they have averaged just 14 points a game.

Bucs back home

Tom Brady and the Bucs have been far from perfect through the first seven weeks of the season. They have just one win in their first three games at home, but tonight is the first of a two game home stretch and if they can get back on track in the next two weeks they will be in much better shape going to Munich to play the Seahawks in two weeks. They can start to make amends in front of the the home fans tonight at  Raymond James.

Jackson's price keeps rising

Everything that has gone right for the Ravens falls on the shoulders of Lamar Jackson. Remember he spent all off season negotiating a new deal which neither Baltimore nor him could agree to terms. The way he is playing, Baltimore will have no choice to make him one of the highest paid QBs, if not the highest, in the league.

Bucs last week

Tampa Bay come into tonight’s game on the heels of their worst performance of the season, and of the Tom Brady era in Tampa Bay. They were almost shut out by perhaps the worst team in the league, and ended up getting blown out 21-3 at the hands of the Carolina Panthers. Tom Brady and the Bucs gained 322 yards, but entered the red zone just once, and never got into the end zone.

Baltimore last week

Baltimore had to block a Cleveland Browns field goal in the final moments of the game to move to plus .500 on the year. In all three of their losses they have given up double digit leads, and were on the verge of doing it again on Sunday against Cleveland. Gus Andrews came back after being sidelined for over 600 days with a knee injury and scored two touchdowns as Baltimore ended up holding off the Browns comeback bid from ten down to win 23-20.
